It's common knowledge that players often breakout in their junior season, the "junior jump" as it's referred to by scouts and coaches. With the season approaching rapidly, we're going to take a look at six players in the Richmond area I expect to take that junior jump and make themselves known as prospects that coaches should keep an eye out for.

[player_tooltip player_id='2624544' first='Chris' last='Lamm'] | 6'0” PG | Benedictine

Lamm has been a part of the Benedictine rotation over the past few years, and after watching him this summer I think he's got a chance to emerge as one of the top guards in the area. The 6'0” lead guard oozes toughness with his willingness to pick up full court and hit the deck for loose balls, he's a throwback style floor general who sees plays ahead and delivers on point passes with some flash at times, and he picks his spots and scores it efficiently off the bounce when he needs to.

[player_tooltip player_id='2898023' first='Christian' last='Tabb'] | 6'2” CG | Richmond Christian

Tabb had a breakout summer and is continuing it this fall, and with the transfer to Richmond Christian he will likely be the go-to guy and has a chance to put up big numbers with his scoring ability. He's a lightning quick guard with shift off the bounce and great balance on step backs and euros, he can make tough shots from all three levels and gets hot quickly, and he's a good athlete who can create chaos and make plays on the defensive end too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2898030' first='Abram' last='Schrinel'] | 6'6” PF | Douglas Freeman

Schrinel is coming off an impressive summer where he played up with the Team [program_tooltip program_id='2416185' first='Loaded' last='804'] 17U group, and his blend of size, athleticism, skill and high motor will make him one of the most productive forwards in the Richmond area this year. At 6'6” he uses his length to rebound and challenge shots against bigger players, he has good footwork to create space and good touch with both hands around the rim, he always seems to be around the ball on both ends, and he's willing to leave it all on the floor every time he steps on it.

[player_tooltip player_id='2898028' first='Joel' last='Nicholson'] | 6'2” PG | Hanover

Nicholson also played up on that 804 group and will be part of the most underrated backcourt in the Richmond area, and while his upside as a prospect is the first thing I noticed, the way he's turning potential into production should make him one of the top guards in the 804 this year. The 6'2” lead guard is a fluid athlete who gets where he needs to off the bounce and puts constant pressure on the rim, he uses his length to get deflections defensively and finish in traffic offensively, and he balances his ability to score at multiple levels well with his ability to create for others when he gets it going.

Shameer Williams | 6'0” CG | LC Bird

Bird loses a lot of their firepower from the last two years when they made back-to-back runs to the state tournament, and so far this fall they look like they have a new group who has been eager to jump to their opportunity, with Williams being one of the new guys who's stood out most. He fits the mold of a Bird player with his high motor and willingness to fly around in their trapping press to force turnovers, he's a confident shooter who can let it fly and has a quick release, and his all-out motor on both ends will make it hard to keep him off the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='2470566' first='Brady' last='Burnette'] | 6'3” SG | St. Chris

Burnette has been a staple for this St. Chris team and their success over the last few years, and with some key seniors exiting it's going to be his time to step up and take over the role as one of the go-to guys for this group. The 6'3” two guard is one of the best shooters in the Richmond area as he moves well off the ball and is dead eye on the move with a quick release, he has improved in his ability to both attack closeouts and create off the bounce in isolation and ball screen situations, and he's a sneaky athlete with a good motor who can do a lot of the little things on both ends of the floor.
