A deep dive on ETG Midwest 17u

ETG Midwest 17u competed at the Omaha session of the Adidas 3SSB Cricut over the weekend. Here are my thoughts on every players performance over the weekend.    [player_tooltip player_id='2453081' first='Goanar' last='Bamach'] had a productive weekend doing all the little things for ETG.   The thing that jumped out the most while watching him this past weekend was his offensive rebounding. He has a great feel for his teammate's misses allowing him to rack up tip outs to keep possessions alive.   Bamach is a versatile player on the offensive end who can step out and hit threes as well as convert put backs and tip ins down low. He also excels at making on time and on target outlet passes the full length of the court.   On defense he holds up well for his frame and uses his vertical to bother and block shots discouraging drivers constantly.   His frame can lead to him getting pushed off his spot on drives and defensive rebounds at times however, his other skills made it hard to keep him off the court. The best example of what he can do was ETG's win over Power 5 where he scored eight points and racked up 10 rebounds and four blocks.      [player_tooltip player_id='2859622' first='Torran' last='Carter-Brown'] is scrappy on defense and crafty on offense and is an all-around really solid guard.   He uses his speed and his handle to take advantage of bigger slower defenders on offense. Carter-Brown is a serviceable shooter who takes advantage of catch and shoot opportunities.   He is a solid passer who often makes the right decision most of the time.   On defense he punches above his size using his speed and activity to bother ball handlers and force turnovers.   He can improve as a finisher as traffic can bother him at times but overall, he is a reliable guard to have on your team.     <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/GetBucketsorDie/status/1875953896625189011 </div></figure>     [player_tooltip player_id='1430444' first='Jacob' last='Webber'] is a knockdown shooter whose gravity makes his teammates lives easier even when he's not making shots.   Weber is comfortable shooting a wide array of different shots. Whether it be pull up threes in transition, catch and shoot threes or step backs he plays with little to no conscious.   His height makes it difficult for defenders to get a good contest on his shot.   Webber had a rough first game where he finished with only three points and no made threes however, he bounced back immediately and finished the weekend with three straight games with three or more made threes.   While he can go cold, he can get extremely hot, he hit four threes in a row in the teams win over Power 5.   Jacob's next area improvement will be finding other ways to affect the game more consistently when his shot isn't falling. That could be rebounding, defending or getting to the line his frame gives him more opportunity to expand his game.   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/AveryQuad/status/1910487848652071075 </div></figure>     [player_tooltip player_id='2861064' first='Emre' last='Gedik'] is a versatile forward who can do a little bit of everything.   Gedik is a force on the glass when he puts his mind to it and a good finisher around the rim. He can also create his own shot with a sneaky handle and a physical driving style he gets to the rim and the free throw line consistently.   Emre is also a more than capable shooter who makes defenses respect his range.   His best performance was a 11-point seven rebound performance against Power 5.   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/GetBucketsorDie/status/1884647483034456233 </div></figure>     [player_tooltip player_id='2731379' first='Nate' last='Kelley'] is a tough nose guard who does a lot of the dirty work for the ETG team.   Kelley's best attribute is his shooting ability. He can get to his own shot and shoot off the catch.   Nate exploits close outs and has a good enough handle to get to the rim.   Defensively he holds up well and has a good feel for getting steals. He walls up on drives and plays well against both smaller and bigger guards.   Kelley exploded for 21 points and two threes in a win over Power 5 for ETG.      Jerri'on Williams had one of the most productive weekends for ETG on both sides of the ball.   On defense Williams is an athletic defender who communicates well and causes chaos constantly. Whether it be digging for steals off ball, playing passing lanes or ripping ball handlers he is an irritant to be aware of.   On offense his speed and handle allow him to get downhill at an impressive rate. Once he gets downhill his finishing can be a mixed bag as he can get stuck in traffic at times. However, he also showed several high-level finishes both through and around contact.   His shot has come along in the last year, as evidence by his four three pointers made performance against D1 Minnesota. He is creative enough to get to his shot whenever he wants from anywhere on the court.   Williams can be an ambitious passer at times leading to high quality reads as well as some head scratching passes every once in a while.   Williams best all-around performance of the weekend came in his 17-point three rebound, three assist and three steal game against Tennessee Impact.   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/jerrionW10/status/1890503742140682515 </div></figure>     [player_tooltip player_id='1580107' first='Derek' last='Rollins'] is a versatile forward whose game is similar to a Swiss army knife.   Rollins ran well in transition was effective moving off of the ball. He is a solid passer and an effective rebounder.   Derek is also comfortable knocking down shots from deep especially of the catch.   On defense he can guard 2-4 and the occasional small ball 5.   He only played two games on the weekend, but his last game was his most impressive where he scored nine points, six rebounds and two assists.      John Fleeman showed flashes of what he can be over the weekend.   John used his size to his advantage over the weekend deterring drivers at the rim and converting near the hoop.   He also showed some passing flashes in ETG's game against ASAK were he recorded four assists.   He is a better rebounder than the numbers may suggest as he gets tips out to teammates to keep positions alive.   Fleeman did find himself in foul trouble often over the weekend.   Ultimately John is raw and has room to improve however, at 6'11'' with a solid foundation he could improve fast.   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/JFleeman34/status/1919551063461331302 </div></figure>     Mav Hawkins energy may have been the most reliable asset for ETG last weekend. He filled up the box score in multiple games providing invaluable production off the bench.   Offensively Hawkins has another gear he can go to get past his defender. He is physical on his drive and a really good finisher around the rim through contact. Guards his size struggled to stay in front of him while, smaller guards were able to get under him at times.   Hawkins isn't necessarily a three-point specialist, but he did knock down three threes against Tennessee Impact. Mav is ultimately someone you have to close out to.   He is a good passer who makes sound decisions. He found shooters by collapsing the defense on his drives.   Hawkins is also presence on the glass at the guard spot. On defense he is a pest who comes up with steals by using his IQ to read the passing lanes.   Mav's best game came against ASAK where he scored 14 points, six rebounds, two assist, one block and four steals.
