Hawkins put together another impressive season as the catalyst for Pembroke Hill, averaging 23 points and seven rebounds per game. Along the way, he earned conference Player of the Year honors while helping keep the Blue Raiders competitive against some of the top teams in the area. Mav has been a familiar name around the metro for years, known for his ability to play above the rim and heat up quickly as a high-level scorer. Now, he’ll take his talents to Vanderbilt, where he’ll compete in the SEC against some of the best players in the country.
The 6’2″ 2026 guard has committed and signed with Vanderbilt. The talented guard averaged nearly 20 points a game as a junior in leading Pembroke Hill to the Class 5 state quarterfinals.
Mav was the driving force behind Pembroke Hill’s strong finish last season, leading the team as they hit their stride late and played their best basketball down the stretch. He filled the stat sheet across the board — scoring, rebounding, and distributing — while showcasing a complete, all-around game. Hawkins carried that momentum into the summer, where his athleticism truly stood out. He made an impact on both ends of the floor, with his quick change of direction, ability to play above the rim, and consistent defensive presence. Offensively, he proved to be a versatile scorer — knocking down shots in a variety of situations and coverages, while also excelling in transition. His ability to push the ball coast to coast and make smart decisions — whether finishing himself or finding teammates — was a consistent highlight. With high expectations for Pembroke Hill this coming season, Hawkins will be the centerpiece. For the team to reach its full potential, he’ll need to raise his production, embrace a leadership role, and continue to set the tone on both ends of the court.
Mav Hawkins energy may have been the most reliable asset for ETG last weekend. He filled up the box score in multiple games providing invaluable production off the bench.
Offensively Hawkins has another gear he can go to get past his defender. He is physical on his drive and a really good finisher around the rim through contact. Guards his size struggled to stay in front of him while, smaller guards were able to get under him at times.
Hawkins isn’t necessarily a three-point specialist, but he did knock down three threes against Tennessee Impact. Mav is ultimately someone you have to close out to.
He is a good passer who makes sound decisions. He found shooters by collapsing the defense on his drives.
Hawkins is also presence on the glass at the guard spot. On defense he is a pest who comes up with steals by using his IQ to read the passing lanes.
Mav’s best game came against ASAK where he scored 14 points, six rebounds, two assist, one block and four steals.
A 6’3″ guard who put together a big season in leading Pembroke Hill to a district championship and a berth in the Class 5 state quarterfinals. He has deep shooting range from behind the arc plus he also has dynamic athleticism to play above the rim. After being a sixth man on a Final Four team two seasons ago, he had blossomed into a primary scoring threat. He averaged 18.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals a game.
Hawkins makes the most of his minutes with this team. He’s a combo guard who can fill it up and has a ton of confidence from three. His shooting ability and playmaking will determine much of his potential as a player. An overall guard that does a lot on the floor. There’s a lot to like in him as a long-term prospect and he showed that in front of coaches.
