Freshman of the Year: [player_tooltip player_id='2523925' first='Trae' last='Fields'] (Cedar Rapids Washington)
Stats: 17.6 points, 1.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.9 steals, 41.2 FG%, 34.6 3P%, 66.7 FT%

Fields is small, but don't let his stature fool you, because the young man can flat out play. He's already one of the best ball-handlers in the state, seemingly having the ball on a string attached to his hands, and he does a great job keeping defenders off balance with his change of speeds and his ability to handle the ball. He's a really good shooter from the arc who is capable of having explosive scoring games (see the 33-point outburst against Iowa City West), and if he ever grows a bit, look out. On a really young Washington team, he stood out not only as a player, but as a leader despite being just a freshman. Fields is our Prep Hoops Iowa Freshman of the Year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2439640' first='Jevyn' last='Severson'] (Madrid)
Stats: 15.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.0 steals, 66.5 FG%, 50.0 3P%, 66.3 FT%

A physically imposing big man with nimble feet, soft hands, and great touch around the rim, Severson is going to put up eye-popping numbers over the next three years for the Tigers after an impressive freshman season that ended with a Class 1A state title. His ability to score inside and out as well as control the glass makes him a really difficult matchup in 1A.

[player_tooltip player_id='2523908' first='Jaxen' last='Christiansen'] (Northeast)
Stats: 15.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.3 steals, 46.4 FG%, 42.3 3P%, 88.4 FT%

Christiansen is a really skilled all-around offensive player who can play with or without the ball in his hands. He shoots it really well off the catch with unlimited range, and he's a talented playmaker off the dribble. He played a major role on a good, veteran Rebels team as a freshman.

[player_tooltip player_id='2523891' first='Carter' last='Thielen'] (Lewis Central)
Stats: 13.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.9 steals, 41.9 FG%, 72.5 FT%

Thielen led the Titans in scoring and steals and was third in rebounding and assists per game. A talented guard who gets to the rim off the dribble, he looks like he's primed to be an explosive scorer over the next three years.

[player_tooltip player_id='2595605' first='MarQwan' last='Morgan'] (North Scott)
Stats: 13.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals, 39.2 FG%, 76.4 FT%

One of the most talented players in the 2028 class, Morgan showed some real flashes of brilliance throughout his freshman year in Eldridge. He's an explosive athlete who can create looks for his teammates, get to the rim off the dribble, and he'll provide some real versatility on both ends of the floor as he continues to develop and mature physically. He transferred to Davenport North following the season, where he'll continue his high school career.

Second Team

[player_tooltip player_id='2523901' first='Halbert' last='Jackson'] (Cedar Rapids Washington)
Stats: 14.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.8 steals, 1.4 blocks, 48.3 FG%, 30.6 3P%, 62.5 FT%

Jackson would've found himself on the First Team if he had played in more games for the Warriors. He's one of the most gifted freshmen I've seen in my time at PHIA, and if he's able to stay on the court, the sky is the limit for him. He's a great athlete, making everything look effortless on the hardwood.

[player_tooltip player_id='2595698' first='Marcus' last='Morgan Jr'] (North Scott)
Stats: 6.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.3 steals, 47.9 FG%, 51.0 3P%

MarQwan's brother, Marcus had a really nice freshman season as well, playing his role as a rebounder, defender, and shot maker. He shot it extremely well off the catch for the Lancers, defends multiple positions, and is really good on the glass. Like MarQwan, he'll play next season at Davenport North.

[player_tooltip player_id='2594655' first='Pete' last='Craig'] (Waukee)
Stats: 7.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.4 steals, 1.3 blocks, 45.0 FG%, 62.5 FT%

Craig started for a 4A state tournament team, so you could certainly make an argument for him being on the First Team. He's a long, skilled wing who can score inside and out, and he uses his length effectively on the defensive end, blocking more than a shot per game for the Warriors. He's also a standout baseball player.

[player_tooltip player_id='2594659' first='Tyler' last='Wedeking'] (Aplington-Parkersburg)
Stats: 12.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 2.0 steals, 41.6 FG%, 41.2 3P%, 79.4 FT%

Wedeking put together a really nice freshman year for the Falcons, shooting over 41% from the 3-point line and providing some secondary playmaking for them. As he continues to develop and mature physically, he'll turn into a viable scoring threat from anywhere on the floor who is capable of doing so with or without the ball in his hands.

[player_tooltip player_id='2772345' first='Tayden' last='Moret'] (Western Christian)
Stats: 7.0 points, 1.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.2 steals, 49.7 FG%, 37.1 3P%, 73.5 FT%

Moret didn't put up the caliber of numbers that some of the other freshmen around the state did, but if you watched him play at the state tournament last month, it's clear that he's a big-time two-way player who will be the next star at Western Christian. He's a high IQ, long guard who can score from all three levels, create plays for his teammates, and he's a really good defender with length, quickness, and intelligence.
