It is officially rankings update time here at Prep Hoops Indiana headquarters. Throughout the month of October we will be focusing on refreshing, refining, and expanding our rankings. Along with that came the release of our initial Class of 2028 Watch List. Since all of these names are very new to us we decided to not rank any of them to begin with. That has been our common practice when introducing a new class over the last couple of years. However, with 293 prospects included, we are very happy with the depth we were able to provide the freshman class as they begin their high school careers. While we don't want to specifically “rank” any of these young prospects, we do want to highlight some of those that we know are going to be towards the top of their class. We released a look at the potential Top 25 prospects in the class across three different pieces. Now, we will break things down a bit further position-by-position. Let's take a look at the best guards in the freshman class.

One of two incoming Bowling twins at Anderson High School, Ray looks to be more of the pure point guard of the two. He handles the ball very well, plays with great pace, and is a good all-around playmaker. Bowling has the quickness to get into the paint consistently off of the bounce and the skill level to stretch the floor as a shooter.

Yet another Kokomo High School freshman to talk about. Cardwell is a big time catch-and-shoot threat that was putting them in consistently from beyond the arc at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. He will factor into the Wildkats backcourt down the road as part of a very talented incoming freshman class.

The younger brother of Olivet Nazarene commit Dylan, Dominic is a very good player in his own right. He has good positional size and length for a young guard, shoots it very well from beyond the arc, and isn't afraid to mix it up on the ball defensively. Definitely a name to remember at Jimtown High School.

We haven't gotten to see Jones yet live due him coming back from an injury, but on film he looks like a guy who could make a lot of noise as a freshman at Borden. There is a lot of talent in southern Indiana in this Class of 2028 and Jones is among the best pure shooters and scorers of the bunch. Excited to see more of him soon.

There are several very talented freshmen coming into the Beech Grove High School program right now and Mastin is one that could see the floor sooner rather than later. He is a very talented and creative playmaker that is fearless as an attacking lead guard. Mastin can score it from multiple spots on the floor and is a very good and willing passer.

One of the more impressive pure point guards at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase, Szaferski is a name to remember in the Class of 2028. There is enough veteran talent at Bishop Luers right now that carving out a role as a freshman could prove difficult, but there are a lot of places where this 5'10" point guard would play from day one. He is a really talented playmaker.

One of several talented freshmen entering the program for Coach Tommy Strine at Tri-West High School. Thomas was a standout at Week One of the Metro Indy Basketball Fall League leading his team in scoring in the first game of the day. He is a dynamic playmaker, both for himself and others, off of the dribble. Don't be shocked if you start hearing his name sooner rather than later at the varsity level.
