MYT "Indiana Super Regionals" Difference Makers 13-14u

These young men played critical roles to their teams' success over the weekend.    BJ is a good all around player who does all the intangibles on the basketball court. Whether it was rebounding, defending, scoring or hustling to make every play, BJ was a constant presence around the ball. He's a multi-talented scorer who can be effective in the paint as well as on the perimeter. There were numerous times in the game when BJ scored through contact in the post. Sometimes this led to him being fouled and getting to the foul-line. Some three-point plays he converted, some he didn't. BJ is an excellent rebounder who often attacked the glass on both ends of the floor. Some of his offensive boards led to easy scores around the basket. There were moments in the game when BJ knocked down mid-range jumpers. He also scored when Fire 2030 Red had fast-break opportunities. Defensively, he blocked a shot and provided a physical presence in the paint. He also showed his versatility by defending smaller players on the wing. With growth and maturity, BJ could be a star in the making.     Kysen is a great all around player. He handles the ball, scores and makes plays on all areas of the court. Kysen is the type of player who could easily put up fifteen-plus points whenever he's on the floor. He showed the ability to score from all levels of the basketball court. Whether it was attacking the basket, scoring from mid-range or knocking down threes, Kysen was a serious problem for the B2E White defense. He's an excellent perimeter defender who used his length to make ball handling difficult for the opposition. His on-ball pressure and tipped passes led to multiple turnovers. Ultimately, the B2E mistakes led to fast-break points for Fire 2030 Red. Kysen is a promising young player. I expect him to easily adjust to the high school basketball scene next season.     This young man was a machine Saturday afternoon! After watching Luke play, I clearly saw him as the teams' “glue guy.” He scored around the basket with a variety of low post moves. The majority of his points came off hustle plays such as put-backs. These occurred when he grabbed offensive rebounds from the missed shots of other offensive players. Luke was great at setting solid screens that freed up other Indiana Blue Demon players. These plays led to high percentage shots for his teammates. Sometimes he was able to score off pick-in-roll plays going to the basket. I was impressed with his skills on the defensive end of the court. He defended the paint, blocked shots and occasionally guarded smaller players on the perimeter. The only flaw to his game is his jump-shot. Once he develops some consistency with his shot, Luke has the potential of being a great all around player. On the bright side, he has plenty of time to work on his game. That's the beauty of being a young player.     I was impressed with this young man's all around skills on the basketball court. Carson is an excellent ball handler who attacks the paint, scores baskets through contact and plays extremely hard on both ends of the court. He has a great scorers mentality that allows him to be a dual threat offensively. In most instances, Carson won his match-ups against the Blue Chip guards. He used a variety of dribbling moves to knock down perimeter jumpers or attack to the basket. When he had an opportunity to knock down threes, Carson did not hesitation. He converted three of them during the game. He's also a great rebounding guard who didn't mind attacking the boards on offense and defense. Some of his defensive boards turned into fast-break starters with him leading the way. Carson has the capability of being a big-time play-maker in high school next season.     Trey does all the dirty work for the Blue Chip team. He's a hardworking player who hustles on every play. Whether it was scoring tough baskets inside, rebounding or playing defense, Trey was a positive force on the basketball court. He's an athletic player who showed the ability to be effective all around the court. Trey is a great rebounder! He dominated the glass on both ends of the floor. The majority of his scores came off hustle plays and grabbing offensive rebounds. There were moments in the game where Trey showed his versatility by handling the basketball and being a play-maker. He beat his defender into the paint and dished off a perfect pass to another teammate. This led to an easy score for the Blue Chip team. Defensively, Trey excelled at blocking shots and playing physical in the paint against the opposition. In my opinion, Trey has what it takes to be a great player at the high school level. Once he improves his jump-shot, the sky's the limit for this young man. Keep it up Trey!!
