Dive in with us as we touch on several prospects that we are excited about long-term as well as their ability to contribute at a high level today. The future is definitely bright for DMV basketball for years to come!
Bolding has been impactful from the jump at Carroll, starting from Day 1 of his freshman season. He provides already-elite perimeter defense as a point of attack defender while distributing the ball well and getting to the line at the offensive end of the floor. How much he grows and how much his perimeter shooting develops will be key in determining his ceiling as a prospect
Ross has been huge for the Saints in his first HS season, providing the flexibility of producing on the ball or off of it as a prolific shooter to open driving lines for some of the upperclassmen talent. While he already possesses ideal size for the position at 6’3, I’m interested in seeing how the Coach Andre Hunter uses Ross early on as well as what position will suit him the best long-term within the framework of what SSSAS does at both ends of the floor
Highlights
Daniels has REALLY come on late for a short-handed DeMatha team that has needed his rebounding, rim-protection and interior scoring. Already standing 6’6 with advanced physical tools, Daniels has carved out a role that should only expand moving forward as his ball skills develop
Coach Wootten will need more productive minutes at the point guard spot to advance in the playoffs and Asare will need to step up to answer the bell as a distributor for the Knights. Wired mainly as a scorer at the middle school ranks, Asare is starting to see some of the drop-off reads and kick-outs that make this O’Connell team successful. Minutes are there for the taking, fingers crossed that he is able to seize the opportunity and flourish
Condon is really shaping up to be an incredible secret weapon for the Quakers this season, mainly due to a foot injury that slowed him at the beginning of the season. As he has gotten healthier and the minutes restrictions have been slowly lifted, Condon has produced at a high level in a limited role as a rebounder, shot-blocker and play finisher around the rim. He has the frame to carve out space but his motor runs incredibly-hot for a prospect this young– really believe that Coach Singletary has another one on the way with Condon.
Foul trouble and conditioning limited the minutes early on for Mena in his freshman year but the burly forward is rounding to form nicely down the stretch as an effective play-finisher and rebounder in the paint. Although his foot speed will need to improve laterally to reach his potential as a switchable big on the perimeter, his post moves are effective and he finishes his chances around the rim with either hand. The perimeter shooting gives him a good bit of versatility on the offensive end of the floor for an Ireton offense that will need some added firepower to advance through the WCAC tournament
McNamara HC Marty Keithline knows what he will get from his sophomore combo of Samuels+Moody and junior Jaren Curtis Jaren Curtis 6’1″ | PG Bishop McNamara | 2025 State MD , Duran will need to make the most of his opportunities as a spot-up shooter for the Mustangs to advance past O’Connell and have a chance against PVI. Duran’s shooting, secondary playmaking, and drives to the basket to take advantage of hard closeouts will be key to the Mustangs making a deep run

Olorungbohunmi has been one of the most unheralded and important pieces in SJC’s magical run to third place in the regular season. He provides physical defense that can guard both forwards as well as perimeter players to give SJC more lineup flexibility. The skillset offensively continues to grow but he already serves as an effective rebounder and cutter as well as a play-finisher around the rim
Taylor’s positional versatility, shot-blocking and athleticism will be huge for McNamara as they gear up to make a run in the postseason tournament. With their first round matchup (O’Connell) and a second round matchup looming with PVI after that, the Mustangs will likely need to play 2 bigs to match the physicality and size of their opponents. Serving as another defender that Coach Keithline can throw against O’Connell’s All American or a host of physical bigs, Taylor will need to hold his own on the glass and as a defender. If he can defend at a high level while finishing putback opportunities off of offensive boards– McNamara will be a tough out this postseason

As teams gear up for the playoffs and coaches spend time poring over film, a surprise contribution from an end of the rotation guy can be the difference in a close game. With his ability to shoot from the perimeter while also getting into the paint and collecting steals, Hill fits the bill as a freshman that could provide a spark for a Mount Carmel team that figures to be in some close games this postseason
