Kyle started off a little slow, but the do-it-all big man went on to showcase his all-around game in a win over North. The opposing defense was making it a priority to limit his touches around the rim, but that wasn’t a problem for Kyle as he was able to step outside and knock down a handful of three point shots on his way to 20 points. He also did a great job of finding angles to catch in the paint, and use pass fakes to clear out some room to operate. Was able to score at the rim while also dishing out some nice passes from the block.
With North putting extra attention on defending the rim, Blake’s ability to stretch the floor was key for Washburn. When the defense would collapse inside, Blake was finding space on the perimeter and constantly had his hands and feet ready to catch-and-shoot before the defense could close out. His shot was going up with confidence, and it led to a 24 point performance in a key win for Washburn. Blake provides an additional ball-handling option for this team as well, and at 6’4 with some athleticism he’s capable of guarding a handful of spots on the defensive end of the floor.

Marcus Marshall Jr
Marcus was the main source of scoring for North on Monday night. He was finding space in the corners often, showcasing his quick release from three to connect on a handful of shots early. He had 9 quick points to keep things tight in the first half, and went on to finish with 19 points. As Washburn started closing out on him harder, he showed he can shot-fake and put the ball on the floor to get to the rim. Explosive athlete who utilizes a floater to finish over taller defenders around the rim. One of the most productive freshmen in the Twin Cities this season.
Jayden may not be scoring as much this season as the rest of his team has continued to progress, but with that we’re able to see his improvements as an all-around point guard. The sophomore was making all types of plays last night, and was setting up his teammates from a variety of angles and locations for high percentage looks. Jayden could drive and dump it off to a forward at the rim, or locate an open shooter and zip it out to them with an accurate pass. Did a nice job of playing off of two feet and finishing his chances at the rim against length. I really like how he competes on the glass, and is able to turn a defensive rebound into a scoring opportunity with his speed getting up the floor.

Daveion Hart Daveion Hart 6’4″ | SG Hopkins | 2025 MN had a big second half to help lead Hopkins past Wayzata. He finished with a game high 22 points, and a majority of his buckets came down the stretch to help his team keep their lead. He mixed in a couple of three point shots with some acrobatic finishes at the rim. His long and lanky frame combined with explosive athleticism allowed him to hang in the air and contort his body to finish at difficult angles around size. He’s also an extremely versatile defender, and he showed that as he limited the good looks a 6’9 D1 commit was able to get throughout the game.
JJ has been such a reliable scoring option for Hopkins this season, and that trend continued last night. He’s one of those players who can catch on the perimeter and just go to work. Sag off and he has no problem putting up a three. Play him too tight and he can get by you and pin you on his shoulder as he dictates the play from there. He already has a long frame, and with his high release point it’s extremely difficult for defenders to contest him when he pulls up for a mid-range jumper. Semanko finished with 17 points in the win.

Anthony set the tone early on with some big buckets to get his team off to a hot start. He’s one of the shiftiest players in the state, and is so unpredictable when the ball is in his hands. Smith can pull up in the blink of an eye, but can also take it all the way to the rim and finish over bigger defenders. He showcased a dangerous hesitation move to freeze his defender before blowing by for some strong finishes at the basket. His 20 points were key in handing Wayzata their first loss of the season.
