Continue ReadingIt’s early but Starks may have the most long term potential in the class thanks to his size and length. He’s still figuring out how good he can be but that’s a great thing at this point. Griffin is allowed to play a relatively minor role on a veteran Newport team but I’ll be interested to see him in AAU this spring and see if he has a little more dog in him when he’s with players his own age.
Flinchum is one of the better scorers to come through the Commonwealth lately. If he continues on the path he’s on right now, he’ll finish near the top of the KHSAA’s all time scoring list. Putting up shooting splits of 50-48-83 is very impressive. I’d like to see him in an AAU environment this spring or summer and see if he can score against higher level athletes than he sees in the 14th region on a nightly basis.
Highlights
Byrd enters the rankings at 24th overall and if he reaches his potential, he could be close to the top by graduation. Despite his modest numbers for Warren Central, Coach Unseld has heaped a ton of praise on Armani and it looks like he will be the man for Warren Central in the near future.
Lowe, like his teammate Starks, is a role player on a veteran Newport team and is able to pick his spots as a contributor for the Wildcats. A year behind Taylen Kinney Taylen Kinney 6’1″ | PG Newport | 2026 State KY , it will be interesting to see how those two jive in the backcourt in the future. For now, Amontae is another hyper talented piece for a Newport roster that is among the best in Kentucky.
