Expert Analysis

Byrd has the length and athleticism that D1 schools covet and will pass the eye test as soon as he steps on the court. The KBC roster has serious depth on the wings. If Armani can prove to be a consistent perimeter shooter, he should see his college prospects take off.

The true definition of a swingman! Armani is fast, long, and lengthy. He plays really well on the defense end of the floor. He is able to read passing lanes and initiate fast breaks. Armani is great at getting downhill on the drive. He is not scared to put someone on a poster either!

Byrd had his coming out party in front of a large crowd at Fairdale high school on Thursday night. Showing everything that makes him intriguing, Byrd had a monster poster dunk on a St Xavier defender and had a putback dunk waived off due to basket interference as well. As a shooter Byrd knocked down a corner 3-pointer and a couple mid-range shots where he rose up above shorter defenders. Not many players combine Byrd’s vertical athleticism, shot making and ball skills at his height and age. Still needs to impact the game at this level consistently but the performance he had on Thursday night shows why I think he’s one of the most talented 2027 prospects in all of Kentucky.

Byrd is on the comeback trail after an injury cost him about 6 months. Armani missed the final stretch of his Sophomore season and then missed all of his AAU season. Assuming he’s healthy all season, Byrd should be the best prospect in the region and be one of the leaders for a Dragons roster that should be in the driver’s seat to get back to Rupp Arena.

Byrd missed out on his entire 16u AAU season but should be ready to roll for his Junior season this winter. Armani is very athletic and isn’t afraid of contact, despite his frail frame. As one of the youngest 2027s in Kentucky, Armani has big time upside long term but will need to be really good for the Dragons in the short term. For Warren Central to get back to Rupp Arena (and past Bowling Green), Byrd needs to be a top 5 or better player in the 4th region as a Junior.

Byrd has been sidelined with a knee injury since the last week or two of the regular season. Armani is a big time athlete with a high ceiling who holds 2 D1 offers and could have a lot of colleges wearing his phone out once he’s back to 100% healthy. Keep an eye on Armani as he is a top 10 talent in this class once he’s back on the court.

If you’re looking for long term potential, Byrd has it in spades. Long and athletic with room to keep growing, Armani has a frame that would remind you of Kevin Durant but he’s not afraid to mix it up on both ends of the court. He’s missing the AAU season after a knee injury ended his Sophomore campaign early but look for Byrd to come back in a big way.

Armani continues to grow and develop and should probably be a freshman right now and not a Sophomore. He’s a very efficient scorer with shooting splits of 54-46-100 but he’s going to have to add bulk to his lean frame moving forward. If Byrd can get to the free throw line more often, he’ll be a 12-15 point per game scorer as a Sophomore on a loaded Warren Central team.
