It’s a deeper field to choose from but these first two teams are filled with high-profile players who have proven to be the top players in their classification. Check out the picks along with a number of guys who could step up and earn a spot at the end of the year.
First Team
A long guard whose profile continues to rise both locally and nationally, Fogle can get it done at each level scoring the rock. He can dice up defenses with the dribble and makes it even harder to stay in front because of his deep range from 3-point. His length has started to play more on the defensive end too and he was a primary factor in helping Anacortes claim the second seed at last year’s state tournament.
This guy’s an all-around force who has helped keep Lynden at the top of the 2A the past two seasons. He’s long, athletic, makes defensive plays and can take over the offense particularly with his ability to get to the rim and knock down shots in the mid-range. He’ll be one of the top two-way players in the 2A again this season.
North Kitsap has two of the top players in 2A who both have the talent to be first-teamers. Orness gets the nod here because he controls the game from the point. He can play both guard spots, line up on the wings, and take smaller players to the post. He’s a power and finesse finisher at the rim who’s also one of the top assist men in the 2A.
Highlights
Olson should make a strong push for 2A Player of the Year and could end up leading the state in scoring. He’s an electric player with a smooth bag of moves and looks automatic from long-range at times. He helped take Mark Morris to the title game last season and is a big-time player to key in on this winter.
The lefty guard leads a deep Renton team and can explode for big scoring nights at any time. He’s a stroker from deep, crafty going to the rim, and has some disruptive length on the ball defensively. Renton came up short at the state tournament last year, but Johnson has all the tools to lead them back and be one of the top players in the 2A again.
Second Team
A tough player who explodes at the rim and has the strength to take contact and still finish. He really came on as a high-level scorer last season and should continue to be one of the tougher matchups in the 2A. He has a chance to help lead this team to a state title in his senior season.
Pepper’s a crafty guard who can score, dish, and be leaned on to be that high volume player. He’s got a quick first step, bursts up to the rim and finishes with strength in traffic. He’ll take on an even bigger role this season and could very well be the CWAC MVP this season.
The Port Angeles guard put up big numbers last season and comes into this one as one of the top scorers in the 2A. He can knock them in from each level, utilizes a nice step-back to create space, and shows some playmaking on the defensive end to create transition opportunities.
Powaukee played a strong complimentary role last season for the Greyhounds but should step into a larger role offensively while maintaining his defensive impact. He’s a next-level athlete who’s shown an all-around impact on the floor. Pullman will be an interesting team to watch that has the talent to compete. Look for Powaukee to step up big for them this season.
A determined playmaker, McClure is the type of player that can takeover in crunch time with his scoring and passing. He gets into dangerous spots and has the touch and vision to take advantage of however the defense reacts. Prosser emerged as one of the top teams in 2A last season and McClure should keep them rolling into this year.
