So instead, I’m opting to break down prospects by area. Here’s a look at the top players in the farthest Eastern Kentucky/Mountain area of Kentucky. For purposes of this article, we are only considering the 14th, 15th and 16th regions.
The first (and only, so far) 2025 to commit, Carter is headed to Liberty but he still has two years of high school left and intends to get Ashland back to Rupp Arena in that time.
Highlights
Austin is one of the most exciting players to watch in the 2025 class thanks to his athleticism. His game continues to evolve and become more well rounded with time. No longer just an athlete, Sperry is an elite talent in the 25 class.
Headed to University of Pikeville after high school, Rigdon is going to do his best to get Pike Central to Rupp Arena next March. A high scoring guard that can get buckets and create for others, Rigdon is probably the single most valuable player to his team of any player in the mountains.
A big time shooter with deep range and the confidence of Steph Curry, Spurlock would be in the mix if you listed best pure shooters in Kentucky. To take it to the next level, Jacob will need to be as much of a facilitator as he is a scorer but he has the potential to be just that.
Highlights
Probably the least glamorous pick on the list, Charlie may actually be the most impactful of every player, especially in the 15th region. Fitzer is one of the best rebounders in Kentucky and can be counted on to get buckets with post touches. If Pikeville wins the 15th again, it will likely be because no one can match his size and ability down low.
Highlights
Eli is likely to be the go to scorer for the Panthers this season but he’s underrated as a playmaker. Johnson has been a top player in the region for years and will look to conclude his career as one of the best guards in Pikeville High history.
Highlights
Only a freshman, Caleb projects to be a big time player in the near future. He’s grown and starting to improve his skill level away from the bucket. Most importantly, Rimmer has a relentless motor. That alone helps him make this list and will be a top player in the area for the next 4 years.
Highlights
Stewart is a big time scoring wing who serves as the Robin to Jaylan Rigdon Jaylan Rigdon 6’0″ | PG Pike County Central | 2024 State KY ‘s Batman. Jaden is a versatile scorer who provides a mismatch for almost every opponent and is learning to impact winning in ways other than scoring. If Pike Central is going to get to Rupp, it will need Jaden to have a big season.
Look, Jackson City was awful last season but you can’t ignore that Flinchum averaged over 26 points per game as an 8th grader. Now at Wolfe County, Corey has more talent around him and that should translate to more winning. His prospect ceiling remains to be seen but Flinchum is one of the best pure scorers in the mountains, if not the best.
Highlights
Despite all the love for Pikeville and Pike Central, it was actually Martin County that won the 15th region last season. Hale was the best player for them and he’s back after averaging over 20 points per game last year. Luke has the ability to score at a high clip but he’s also underrated as a playmaker and will have Martin County in the mix to return to Rupp by March.
