A guard who just keeps on getting better and better, Leach brings toughness with his impressive on ball defense from the off-guard spot. Already holding a pair of Division I offers, Leach was offered by local program Toledo and College of Charleston already. After starting the spring with All Ohio Red’s 16 U group and making an impact off the bench, he joined the Ohio Buckets 16 U group for July and got to showcase more of his on-ball creation and scoring ability. As just announced today, Leach is transferring to Toledo Whitmer, who will have one of the more talented teams in the state next season with a lot of new faces.
One of the biggest jumps any player on our list made, Sims was a prospect I didn’t get to watch during his Sophomore season with Canton McKinley. After seeing him in June with the Pups, it was clear that he’s grown a couple inches and really improved athletically. Having one of the highlights of Midwest live with a poster slam, that play shows the athletic growth he’s made in the past 12 months. Always been a good shooter with his feet set, with his growth spurt he’s more capable of shooting over smaller defenders. Canton McKinley has a new head coach and will look to get back near the top of the federal league with Sims leading the way.
Highlights
We recently discussed Ethan’s twin brother Eli as the pair have impressed this summer with Centerville during June and Midwest Basketball Club in July. Greenberg has a funky shot release but has been making shot consistently all summer. With his strong body, size and shooting ability, he checks a lot of boxes that scholarship programs look for in wing prospects. Combine that with the production that I expect him to have in the GWOC this season and his college recruitment will likely really pick up steam starting in the late winter and early spring.
A prospect who was hurt for his entire freshman season and just started to hit his stride at the end of his sophomore season at Brush is a prime breakout candidate this winter. After watching the highlights posted by TNBA in July, it seems that Dammons has fully recovered with his explosiveness and athleticism fully back. His ability to explode at the rim and attack off the bounce will be a perfect fit with Chet Mason, who has done a great job developing guys within his program. Also, a good shooter from the outside with his feet set, Dammons can score the ball in a variety of ways. If Dammons can turn his flashes into consistent production, expect to continue to see his name rise up our rankings over the next year and a half.
The breakout that I project with Henderson for Westerville Central this winter could be the push they need to compete for a district title and more in central Ohio this season. A crazy athlete from the wing guard position, Henderson has a handful of highlight reel dunks that will catch anybody’s eye. Playing next to a handful of college targets in the 2024 class, expect scholarship programs to take notice of Henderson either this winter or in the spring grassroots season. A player that you’ll be hearing a lot more of as this season plays out.
