The future Marquette Golden Eagle looks like a great fit for Shaka Smart and their system. A big wing with the ability to put it on the floor and attack the rim or stick shots from beyond the arc, Owens will find a way to score it. He could develop into a high level defender with time as well. Teammmates Niko Bundalo and Royce Parham were instrumental as well, but WRA doesn’t win the championship without Owens.

The last prospect in this article and only PIT prospect outside of All Ohio and Indy Heat. Owens is shooting 50% from the floor and 38% from 3-point range on high volume through five games in North Augusta. Rapidly developing his 3-point shot and continuing to use his impressive physical tools defensively and in transition, Owens continues to show why he’s currently ranked as Ohio’s top 2024 prospect on our website. Averaging two steals a game, Owens will bring his havoc style of defense to Shaka Smart’s system. I’m a huge fan of Owens’ game and think he’s only going to get better and better as he gets older and continues to develop. A big time talent in Ohio’s 2024 class.

One of the big risers from the spring, Owens has been crucial for City Rocks as they went 8-9 during the EYBL regular season. Owens averaged double-digit points per game on improved perimeter shooting with 18 made 3-pointers across the 17-game regular season. An impact defender and transition athlete, Owens impacts the game in a variety of ways. This is the second time Shaka Smart has gone into Ohio for a high school prospect after grabbing Sean Jones in the class of 2022, Owens looks like he could be another impact player for the Golden Eagles from Ohio as he fits what Marquette wants to do at the college level.

Saving the best performance for last, Owens had the best game any Ohio prospect had with a 33 point outing Vs Team Thad to wrap up my weekend in Atlanta. Owens went 6/6 from 3-point range and was dominant on both ends of the court. This was an unreal performance, but Owens scored over half his points of the whole weekend in that one game and made six of his seven 3-pointers in that game as well. Consistency would be my biggest area of focus for Owens because the game he had to end the weekend was special. Defensively, Owens is elite and had a variety of guards frustrated with his length, quickness and activity defensively. Owens also has the athleticism to play above the rim and caught a put-back dunk that drew a strong reaction from the crowd. While his handle isn’t tight yet in half-court spaces, his quickness and size allows him to get where he wants to in transition and can create space in the half-court. I’m very high on Owens long term upside and believe he has the potential to be an all-conference performer at Marquette.

Owens came to Ohio as a nationally ranked prospect, coming in at 110th in the country according to 247. Already holding multiple high major offers, I came in with high expectations for Owens. I was impressed with how fluid he moved with the ball in his hands, his burst was impressive considering the size and strength combo he has. Owens also has a solid looking stroke that has room for improvement as well. I expect Owens to continue to be highly pursued by high major programs until he makes his college decision.

Owens was the most impressive prospect on Western Reserve, making plays in a variety of ways. Owens is an impressive athlete and had a couple nice split moves with the basketball, showing his burst, handle and ability to play as a wing. The first bucket of the game was a put-back slam by Owens that sent a message to So Cal Academy. Owens has a solid looking stroke and knocked down a 3-pointer off the catch, continuing to work on that will be a priority throughout his development. Overall I was really impressed by how Owens was physically and his production matched his talent. This will be one of the top players in Ohio’s 2024 class when rankings are updated next week.
