From Tuesday to Thursday, 17 teams did battle in a single-elimination style bracket to crown a national champion. A number of New York natives played well over the three days, while one helped lead his team to the championship. Here’s a look at the NY Forward Standouts From The National Prep Championships:
The future Marquette Golden Eagle looks like a great fit for Shaka Smart and their system. A big wing with the ability to put it on the floor and attack the rim or stick shots from beyond the arc, Owens will find a way to score it. He could develop into a high level defender with time as well. Teammmates Niko Bundalo and Royce Parham were instrumental as well, but WRA doesn’t win the championship without Owens.
The Queens native has seen things take off from a recruiting standpoint since enrolling at Putnam Science earlier in the year. A 6-foot-8 forward who has a knack for making winning plays and can play facing up, Randall’s motor and versatility have schools high intrigued.
There’s not many players tougher pound-for-pound then N’Defo, who took on a bigger role with no Jason Sanon over the week. He finished with 15 and 13 in a hard fought loss against The Phelps School. The future Towson Tiger will have a chance to be an all-league player before he graduates.
Hogarth gave Gael fans a preview of what he will bring to Iona next season, as the senior big man went for 21 and 9 in a losing effort. A nimble 6-foot-8 forward with some face up ability, Hogarth has the skill and talent to develop into a very good piece for Iona in time.
The Rochester native shot the ball as well as from beyond the arc as I’ve seen him, going 9-for-17 over a three game span. The addition of being a threat from beyond the arc combined with his toughness, defense and slashing ability will make him a valued recruit in the class of 2025.

The Middletown big man finished with 15 points on 9 shots in 15 minutes in a win over Massanutten and then followed that up in an 8 point, 6 rebound effort in 14 minutes in a loss to Link Year Prep. At this point it looks like he’s on track to head to JuCo next season, and has the talent to make an impact at the college level.
