Underrated Shooters

These are some of the names you might not be so familiar with for various reasons, but they can still knock down shots with the best of them and no doubt belong in our Top Shooters in the State.

[player_tooltip player_id='1450941' first='Will' last='Sullivan'] | Walla Walla

Sullivan has an easy looking stroke from deep and the way it falls through the hoop gives him the look of a natural shooter. He has the high arcing shot that just drains down the net, and he seems to be a kid who is making all the right improvements and still has a lot of potential to reach for.

Mason Castillo | Chiawana

The senior guard has been a big floor-spacer for the surging Riverhawks as they make their first trip to the state tournament since 2019. His shooting plays a huge role for a squad with plenty of athletes and slashers who can finish at the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id='1439241' first='Jonah' last='Gebers'] | Kennewick

Gebers was a part of an underrated backcourt in Kennewick. His long-range abilities were key in keeping the Lions' attack balanced this season, and his consistency had a lot to do with his footwork before even catching the ball. Gebers is fantastic at getting his feet under him and set to ensure balance and consistency on his shot, and make sure he can get the shot off quickly with defenders closing in.

[player_tooltip player_id='1450945' first='Brandon' last='Lee'] | Davis

For Davis, you never know which guy is going to get hot, but if you're looking for a shooter to run the gambit, Lee is your guy. He's a guard that brings tenacity to the court and when he gets hot from 3-point the whole team feels the juice. He shoots with great confidence and has a nice rainbow-style shot that just falls through the basket. Don't sleep on the younger Lee either, sophomore Tyson Lee can shoot it too.

[player_tooltip player_id='1463070' first='Jaymon' last='Wright'] | Meadowdale

While most of the aforementioned players are long-range threats, Wright is more of a mid-range killer. He has good length and finds ways to create space in tight areas to get his shots off. More often than not, it's touching nothing but net and the Meadowdale guard has one of the sweetest looking strokes around.

[player_tooltip player_id='1612191' first='Josh' last='Woodard'] | Richland

Woodard will hurt you in a lot of different ways. The Bombers' guard keeps the pace high and has one of the better strokes east of the mountains. He's great at catching the ball in rhythm coming off screens or hard cuts. And when he's shooting off the face up, has great head fakes and jabs that make defenders pause just a little longer.

[player_tooltip player_id='1450994' first='Dylan' last='Gilderhus'] | Rogers

The 4A SPSL first-team all league guard does not lack confidence from downtown. He can hit from deep, release the ball quickly, and excels at rocking defenders back with his dribble to get them leaning the wrong way and get his shot off. He's only a sophomore and will be a name to watch next season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1574833' first='Jesse' last='Tijerina'] | Southridge

Talk about an under-the-radar shooter, Tijerina has big-time range from behind the arc and has had a number of big performances shooting the rock, including making eight 3-pointers against Eisenhower early in the year. He's great at the catch and shoot, gets his feet set fast and isn't easily affected by closeouts.

Underclassmen Marksmen

These guys represent the next wave of outstanding shooters our state has to offer, and have already made their mark from beyond the arc in just their sophomore seasons. Get a glimpse of the future with these underclassmen long-range threats.

[player_tooltip player_id='1451033' first='Jaylen' last='Petty'] | Auburn

Petty wasn't just one of the top shooters this season, he was also league MVP in the 3A NPSL. Since coming over to Auburn, Petty has essentially been a lights out shooter who defenses have to account for. The proof is in the pudding, as Petty has made seven or more threes on four different occasions this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1450985' first='Legend' last='Smiley'] | Garfield

As a freshman, Smiley was a rotational guy who could come in and stretch the floor but also showed good athleticism at the rim. A year later and he has become one of the more sophisticated shooters in the state, a guy who can shoot from all over and kills defenses with methodical shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='1451022' first='Tristan' last='Frimodt'] | Columbia

So solid and controlled, Frimodt is an excellent shooter that relies on a good shooting base and a succinct motion up top. He's a great inside and out threat with his strength and shooting, and one of the main reasons Columbia is 22-1 and the four seed at this year's 2B state tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id='1450989' first='Beckett' last='Currie'] | Camas

Currie showed some flashes last season as a potential shooter in the making, but the strides he's taken this season have been remarkable. He's a guy who doesn't have to necessarily be on balance to let it go and has a plethora of moves to create space and lock in on the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id='1696643' first='Kody' last='Holcomb'] | Union

Holcomb joined Union's starting five this season and has shown a burgeoning ability to sink shots with the jumper, pulling up in the mid-range, spotting up from three, and has some serious potential as an all-around scorer with his long 6-foot-6 frame.
