Continue ReadingWalker has looked like he’s a frontrunner for Gatorade POY in North Carolina, being so consistent night in and night out on the court. He’s a scorer at heart, getting downhill and not afraid to meet anyone at the rim. It pays off with a great free throw rate as well as scoring numbers, shooting over 50% from the field. He continues to show flashes of a solid jumper from deep, and is also improving in the way he makes plays for his teammates. It’s also impressive how he approaches the game from a sense of maturity and toughness, as he looks like a collegiate veteran in terms of how well he carries himself. He should be shooting up recruiting boards by the day.
Ma’Kyi Butler Ma’Kyi Butler 6’5″ | SF Grace Christian (Sanford) | 2024 State NC is a big-bodied wing who exploded onto the 2A scene last year and has looked just as good so far. He can score at all three levels with different skills in his arsenal; he uses physicality and strength to create at the rim, and a solid jumper to be able to hit pull-ups and 3 point jumpers. His size and strength allow him to switch and guard both bigger forwards as well as guards, which makes him a valuable component at the next level. If he can keep developing the defense and scoring at such a high rate, he should be a high level 3 and D prospect for colleges to monitor.
Tim Hall falls in the same category of big bodied wings, but with an entirely different skillset. His game probably translates as an undersized 4, and it shows, as he’s strong as a rim runner, finisher, and screener. He’s very mobile and physical enough to be a problem in pick and rolls with his guards. And don’t question his ability to jump, because he can do that with the best of them. It will be interesting to see where he ends up, as he can play with the best of them.
Following up Hall is his teammate “Flash” Bradley, who’s nickname is an apt description for his physical gifts. He’s quick, shifty, and gets off the ground in a hurry when he has to. I’ve been most impressed with him as a slasher and scorer at the rim, where he’s got the ability to play off both one and two feet, as well as get to the free throw line when needed. He commands this offense really well along with Kenyon Addie, and he should be getting more looks as colleges look towards the unsigned senior class.
Smith is a thin, lanky guard who can score the ball in bunches when he is needed to. He’s a scorer that thrives all over the place, especially shooting jumpers. However, I’ve been impressed by his ability to pass and make the right read for his teammates as well. He’s not someone who is going to make his team win or lose just by scoring, so it’s been good to see him get his teammates involved.
Highlights
Myrie is what makes his team go, and he’s a textbook undersized point guard. He’s got the ability to make tough shots inside the perimeter, both off the bounce and at the rim. He flips it around and also provides a level of intensity on defense that few in the state match. He is an absolute hawk on the ball, as evidenced by his 4.3 steals per game. Look for him to do a lot of what he’s shown already for the rest of the year while leading Village Christian as far as he can take them.
