The Ohio State team camp brought out a lot of central Ohio teams and some other talented teams from other areas of the state. In this article I’ll be breaking down the top 2023 prospects I saw yesterday.

[player_tooltip player_id="1090150" first="Elias" last="Lewis"], 6’2 SG Olentangy Orange 2023: Lewis shot the ball at a very efficient clip on Thursday, as his jumper is one of the prettiest in the state. Lewis is a sneaky athlete when he gets a head of steam and threw down one impressive dunk in the half-court against Lloyd Memorial (KY). Lewis will likely get a lot of scholarship interest from Division II programs and Olentangy Orange has an intriguing 2023 guard trio with Lewis, [player_tooltip player_id="1163459" first="Mikey" last="McCollum"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1467907" first="Jordan" last="Edwards"].

[player_tooltip player_id="1398626" first="Deric" last="Jaynes"], 5’10 PG Toledo Whitmer 2023: The lefty Jaynes shot the ball at a very high level from the outside and moved the ball well within the Whitmer offense. With Jaynes efficient shooting from the outside and experience playing at the varsity level, he should be one of the more productive senior guards in NW Ohio.

[player_tooltip player_id="922598" first="Ja’Vaughn" last="Jones"], 6’6 C Toledo Whitmer 2023: Jones is finally back healthy after well over a year out due to an injury and showed some potential against five star Xavier Booker. Jones got better as the game went on and became more comfortable. It’s going to be interesting to follow Jones development as he’s just getting his feet wet again and could be much improved by the winter. Jones struggled to finish around the rim but showed good touch on mid-range jumpers.

[player_tooltip player_id="1399902" first="Carter" last="Reese"], 6’2 SG Westerville North 2023: Reese is a high level outside shooter who has really improved his stock this spring and summer. After a solid season for Westerville North, I expect Reese to be one of the highest scorers in the OCC as a senior. Reese is almost automatic off the catch when he’s left open and has some real wiggle to his game with the ball in his hands. I expect Reese to be highly sought after by the best Division III programs in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id="1225047" first="Charlie" last="Russell"], 6’4 PF Bishop Ready 2023: Russell is a multi-sport stud for Bishop Ready, as he also excels on the baseball diamond. Russell shot the ball at a high level off the catch and can finish in traffic with his strong frame on the inside. Russell also has some explosiveness off two feet in the paint, throwing down some powerful dunks. Russell plays on an experienced Bishop Ready team that will get a lot of small college love with Russell, [player_tooltip player_id="922603" first="Kaleb" last="Schaffer"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1201835" first="Luke" last="Ruth"] (who will be featured next).

[player_tooltip player_id="1201835" first="Luke" last="Ruth"], 6’1 CG Bishop Ready 2023: Ruth is the guy who makes the Ready offense go, running the offense and doing a good job directing the team when things get tough. Ruth plays at his own pace and doesn’t get sped up by high pressure defense. Ruth is also a capable shooter from the outside, making the defense pay when they were left open.
