still figured out ways to be productive and effective with his extremely lengthy frame in spot minutes throughout the course of the live period this weekend. Showing some really strong flashes of his activity in the paint, Mallavarapu proved to be really impactful— impressing particularly as an area rebounder snatching rebounds out of the air and as a shot blocker swatting shots out of bounds with timely anticipation.

With the lengthy and wiry frame he possesses and in the early stages of his on court development, Mallavarapu still found ways to impact the game without necessarily needing the ball in short stints, particularly on the defensive end— leveraging his glaring length to wall up against shot attempts around the basket, force deflections in the passing lanes with his active hands, and securing rebounds on the glass.

had the intrigue of quite literally everybody in the state of New Jersey in his first year of seeing varsity action this season. Although still in the early stages of his development, Mallavarapu showed extended stretches of his on court growth— leveraging his glaring length and natural activity on the glass, excelling as a rim protector with well timed anticipation and the discipline to stay vertical and contest shots without fouling. Slightly less further along on the offensive end, Mallavarapu still showed intriguing flashes of what his skillset could later develop into on that side of the floor, as he became fluid in his movements and a stronger inside finisher. As he continues to get stronger and fill out his frame while refining his skillset, Mallavarapu continues to be a prospect that trends upwards.

Showing no signs of nerves on the big stage, Mallavarapu popped off the bench early for Montgomery and provided a huge spark on both ends of the floor. Taking an advantage of a Plainfield lineup that lacks a true frontcourt presence, he was immediately able to use his length and activity to hit the offensive glass for a pair of smooth putbacks. He was impactful as a rim protector, showing impressive timing with his help rotations and strong technique to stay vertical and contest without fouling. While he’s still at a strength deficit in most matchups, Mallavarapu was a consistent factor on the glass with his sheer length and steady pursuit of the ball. He continues to develop with each rep and should have a chance to really break out onto recruiting radars as soon as this spring and summer.

Another quickly-emerging prospect in the sophomore class, Mallavarapu continues to make significant strides in as a full-time starter in his first year at the varsity level. He continued showing signs of growth with an efficient 10 points and at least 4 blocks. His length, effort, and natural awareness make him a consistent deterrent at the rim defensively while he continues adding fluidity as a finisher around the rim and getting more natural with his timing playing off his guards. His biggest hurdle will be adding strength to a narrow frame, but Mallavarapu boasts a clear ceiling for long-term success at the D1 level with continued reps and development.

One of the day’s more intriguing finds, Mallavarapu didn’t necessarily stuff the stat sheet but showed a number of promising long-term tools throughout Montgomery’s narrow loss to St. Mary’s. With standout size and length, the budding two-way big has strong positional awareness on both ends, showing decent hands and technique inside offensively with comfortable touch at the foul line and some comfort making simple decisions on the perimeter. He brought good energy defensively as a rim protector and is intriguingly light on his feet getting out to shooters on the perimeter. Mallavarapu is still a long-term bet as he requires plenty of work to add strength and deal with varsity speed and physicality, but he brings clear intrigue for the scholarship-level as he continues to develop his body and add game reps.
