Ward had a solid game hitting shots from three and doing all the little things. I like how he never holds the ball for too long and always knows what he’s going to do with it before it comes to him. He’s going to be so well prepared for college hoops at the University of Chicago next year as a result of the competition he’s faced at the prep school level, and that’ll likely pay dividends for him. It’ll be exciting to see him take on a larger offensive role than he had at Cushing, too.

Ward has always been a steadying force for Cushing. With so many offensive studs around him, he fits in as a shooter and ball mover; and against Lawrence Academy, he filled that role quite well. Ward found pockets in the zone behind the three-point line and was FEELING IT for the entire first half, which forced LA to go to a man-to-man in the second half. Defensively, he does all of the little things like rotating extra hard on the weak side and attacking the defensive glass for the rebounds that Edema somehow doesn’t envelope. He knows his role and he doesn’t go outside of it – so admirable.

Ward impressed as a shot-maker being automatic from behind the three point line. He went four of five from three. He also shagged a few rebounds and collected a steal. He has a good basketball IQ and lets the game come to him. Ward has good positional size for the guard spot. University of Chicago did a great job of identifying him as prospect and getting it done. His ability to knock down shots should give him a chance to vie for time in their rotation early on in his career.
