Melson decided to end his recruitment when the high academic prospect announced that he will attend Hamilton College. Coming off a solid summer with the New England Storm, Melson has continued to elevate his game. A big wing, he provides a real floor spacing weapon with his ability to consistent knock down shots from the perimeter. He’s a high IQ prospect that understands the flow of offense and has shown to be a quality, instinctive cutter. He’s comfortable making plays with the ball in his hands and shows good floor vision and feel as a passer. Defensively, he plays with a good motor that allows him to be effective as a rebounder and disruptor in passing lanes. With his combination of size, strength, and athleticism, he can guard, at least, up and down a position at the next level. Hamilton lands a terrific first piece in their recruiting class, as Melson profiles as a big time shot maker at the next level, capable of eventually playing at an all-league level in the NESCAC.

Melson is a 6-foot-6 stretch big with some post moves on the inside as well. Defensively, he works hard and is willing to bang bodies with larger bigs, but he can also slide his feet with quicker players on the perimiter. Melson was a leader on his team and one of the best defensive back-side communicators I saw today. D3 schools are fawning over Melson’s combination of size and skill, so he’ll definitely find a high-level D3 squad to play with.

Melson made his debut in these rankings at #52 after a strong spring season with the New England Storm. A big guard/wing that can really shoot the ball, Melson has shined as a floor spacer playing alongside creative guards. He does a good job of running to his spots in transition, is a high IQ cutter off the ball, and is a willing ball-mover. He’s shown an ability to make plays off the bounce and uses his strength to finish through contact at the rim. Defensively, he does a good job of competing, can guard multiple positions, and is a quality rebounder for his size. He’ll be a fun prospect to follow over the next few months as he has a chance to play his way up the board, especially if he continues to knock down shots at a high clip.
