Howery’s blend of supreme IQ with the ball and growth as shotmaker puts him as one of the premier lead guards in this class. Someone worth running your offense, he showed consistency throughout this season thanks to his health. Although always an excellent playmaker, the guard’s perimeter shooting from a standstill or off the bounce makes him such a dynamic lead guard. Defensively, his quick reactions and proactive instincts allow him to compete about as well as anybody at his size.

There’s not much more you could ask from a lead guard with Howery’s impact. Adept controlling the flow to create the best possible scoring opportunities for teammates, the guard brings exceptionally high IQ with the ball. Continuing to showcase consistency shooting the ball out beyond the arc and from mid-range pull-ups, Howery has been as consistent as anyone scoring. The fact that he is never sped up allows him to find his spots, taking routine shot attempts even with a hard contest. Defensively, he is constantly roaming around on help side for steals or to take a charge.

Bringing so many areas of value, Howery is an especially high IQ guard who see’s the floor at a high level. With the ball on a string going either direction, the guard is rarely a turnover risk from errant passes. Particularly effective controlling the pace within the halfcourt, Howery is excellent getting downhill to take advantage of a collapsed defense. Although on moderate volume, the lead guard showed consistency knocking down threes last season with Air Academy, contributing 37% of those attempts. As he continues to get up to speed, Howery’s help and point of attack defense will be even more beneficial, one of the better prospects at noticing opponent tendencies. With a new look Air Academy team, Howery’s facilitating abilities will be essential to their success down in Colorado Springs.

He has great on-ball defense and was a pest on the defensive end causing problems for the ball handlers all day. He is a knockdown shooter from behind the arc and was able to get some open 3’s in transition.
