Mai is one of the more intriguing returning prospects in the Pikes Peak Conference, and we believe he has a chance to put both the conference and the state on notice this season. At 6’4, he’s an explosive guard with good size who averaged 11.1 points and an impressive 7.9 rebounds per game last season and the thing is, I don’t believe many know how he’s performed. He’s capable of grabbing a defensive rebound and immediately pushing the ball in transition, he can attacking defenders in isolation and also can score without having to have plays set for him. We saw a bit of him this summer and he plays with an edge and can be aggressive. Improving his perimeter shooting would open up another dimension of his game, but he doesn’t need to settle for jumpers to be effective. We believe Mai could significantly boost his stock this season, and if Air Academy can put together a strong year, he has a chance to emerge as a dark-horse First Team All-Conference selection.
