Clayton Conover | Prep Hoops Scout
The state’s most skilled perimeter shooter, Hellem needs minimal space to get jumpers off from distance. Elite flowing from weak side actions and quickly setting his feet for attempts, he is 41.5% on threes over his last two seasons. Defensively, although undersized he is alert on help defense and competes at the point of attack.

Arguably the most versatile perimeter shooter in the class, Hellem is adept flowing off of weak side actions or handoffs for quick trigger threes. Despite his size disadvantage, the guard understands how to compete for loose balls or fight around screens.

Hellem is averaging 23.7 points per game and is a guard that can create off of the dribble and get his own shot. He is dangerous around the rim as he can finish through contact and can knock it down from the charity stripe as well. He is a knockdown shooter from behind the arc as well, being able to step further out and make the defense pay if they do not extend out with him. He will be a prospect looking to carrying his momentum into the second half of the season.

There are few guards in the state, if any, who are as dangerous as Hellem off the catch. Particularly dangerous flowing off of screen actions, such as flares and pindowns. He can rise up from anywhere along the perimeter, shifting his hips quickly to square up in the blink of an eye. He hit multiple clutch threes in this matchup, although one of his biggest plays was an and-1 floater towards the end of regulation. His performance helped Air Academy battle down to the end of overtime.

Active flowing off of weak side actions or rising up off the initial spot-up attempt, the guard is a nightmare to deal with. Complemented by pesky defense at all times, he is a tireless worker who seems to have an endless motor. He is a positive impact facilitating, making the extra pass off of drives when presented the opportunity.
