Clayton Conover | Prep Hoops Scout
Dee-Mortensen continues his success, excellent versus opposing point of attack defenders thanks to his size as a lead guard. Comfortable handling contact one on one, the guard works to keep his eyes up for the extra pass or at least leverage his defender’s positioning against them.

Dee-Mortensen really found his groove in their second game, going for 24 points against Curtis and showing an ability to strike from all levels. He opened up with some threes, then started to pour in midrange shots off the bounce, and then had some pretty athletic finishes at the rim. He did a great job throughout the weekend of attacking the rim, using his length to finish up high, and making some great cuts/reads on screens and defenders.

Mortensen looked to attack off the catch, whether for driving lanes or perimeter shot attempts. His above average height for a lead guard allows him to play a wide variety of roles on both ends, although his abilities as a perimeter playmaker were essential to the Miners success this weekend.

Dee-Mortensen is a tall guard with a quick jumper, capable of being a valuable shotmaker for this group very soon. The guard has plenty of confidence in his abilities along the perimeter, not fazed by incoming contests. His positional size should make him a versatile defender, especially as added strength comes in. With Doherty losing out on two of their three leading rebounders, the junior will likely be tasked with improving his rebounding volume. Through the guard’s previous season with Doherty, Dee-Mortensen posted 7.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
