Woods has some upside that could make him an interesting addition to Doherty’s varsity group this season. He showed a nice offensive feel over the summer, especially as a shooter, but he also looked comfortable making plays when he had the ball. He plays under control, sees opportunities develop and doesn’t force things just to get involved. That type of decision making can be valuable when the pace picks up at the varsity level. If he continues to gain confidence and finds his rhythm, Woods could give Doherty another reliable option and work his way into a role that grows as the season moves along

Woods had a very solid day at the event. Each game, he looked more and more alive, and by the time we got into the thick of 5-on-5, he was in a rhythm and ready to take over. He is very confident when the ball is in his hands, and the offense seemed to operate better going through him. Woods can shoot it; he used plenty of ball screens and showed a good understanding of how to attack off the screen as well. He mixed in some crafty scoop finishes and showed he isn’t strictly an on-ball player either. He also had a couple of defensive plays where he showed off his quick hands and stayed in front of his man. He boosted his stock at this event.

Woods popped on our radar earlier this Summer with how he processed the game, made plays for teammates, and also used his bigs in PnR situations to get to his spots. He was a consistent standout that we went to go watch in multiple games, and we saw the same results, which lets us know that there’s something special there. Now we want to see how it’s grown and seeing if he has added pieces to his game that will make the game come easier for him and, even more importantly, if it changes in a different setting. This is a prove-it spot for a player we feel will be on more radars very soon.

Woods was the definition of an all out competitor for Olympic City Elite, giving 100 percent on every possession. He embraced the team first mentality, making the extra pass and using his vision to create quality opportunities for his teammates. Offensively he was effective from the mid range and showed the ability to attack the basket and finish through contact. His relentless effort, unselfish play and willingness to do whatever his team needed made him a key contributor. Woods’ motor never slowed down and his energy was felt from start to finish
