A state champion in Texas, Veal helped lead Houston Christian to a 35-1 season this winter. Veal was also named all-spc and received a recent offer from UTSA just over a week ago. With tremendous athletic upside on both ends of the court, Veal pops when you watch him play. Able to throw down putback dunks and block shots, Veal has also flashed some turnaround jump-shooting and ball handling ability. I expect his recruitment to spike significantly this summer.

On the low block, with his back to the basket, Veal was quick to jump-stop into the middle of the lane where his soft, quick push shot was money in the bank. An incredible leaper with explosive pop, Veal proved to be an elite lob threat, especially in set actions where his timing and verticality stood out on backdoor alley-oops. Defensively, Veal rotated early, protected the paint, and showed good instincts as a shot blocker.

Veal brings everything you want in a modern forward — he can space the floor, protect the rim, and start the break off the glass. He plays with a strong base and good instincts in both post and face-up situations. His athleticism pops more when he’s attacking from the perimeter or slipping into open space. He has the IQ to play with different lineups and fill multiple roles depending on team needs. His upside is real, and his motor is a big part of his appeal.

Houston Christian will be a tough out come playoff time, and if Veal’s growth continues on its current path, he has a clear trajectory toward a high-level college program.

Throughout my years of scouting, I’ve been able to watch Landon play numerous of times. Each time I watch him play he adjusts well to each role he’s given on a team. During the Super 16 Extravaganza he primarily played in the interior offensively while playing defense on all three levels. Against Westfield High School his activity level was high as he was able to score in the paint and have his hands on offensive boards providing second chance opportunities. Defensively, he guarded players in the interior while also being able to contain opposing ball handlers on the perimeter. His versatility brings a lot of value to Houston Christian on both ends.

Veal has a developing offensive game that flashes versatility. He is effective cutting off the ball and finishing around the rim, and has begun to stretch his range as a shooter. Defensively, he competes with energy and covers ground well in help situations. Veal’s activity and length make him a prospect to monitor closely.
