He received two Division I offers from Iona University and Montana State University before the grassroots season ended. Josiah’s ability to score on all three levels, including three-pointers, is a testament to his versatility. However, he doesn’t rely solely on scoring to make an impact. Instead, he excels at distributing the ball, setting up his teammates for consistent offensive opportunities. Josiah thrives at a fast pace and enjoys playing at a high tempo. Defensively, he competes well and is a formidable presence in passing lanes for opposing offenses.

Josiah is one of the highest IQ guards in the Houston area when it comes to offensive style of play. He finds teammates consistently for open looks/shots at the basket, uses speed to create his own looks at the rim, and he is dynamic in his ability to impact the stat column in all categories. His savvy with the ball keeps opponents off balance and on their toes when in isolation coverage against Josiah. He absorbs contact consistently and finishes tough and-ones, even against taller defenders. McGowen had a very productive summer running with RL9 on the New Balance circuit and his stock has risen up the recruiting boards. Coaches, don’t miss out on recruiting this high IQ combo guard!

Josiah McGowen Josiah McGowen 6'0" | CG Houston Christian | 2027 State TX created and converted offensive opportunities on what seemed like a play to play basis, scoring impressively well within the flow of the offense, nailing spot up catch and shoot three-pointers from different areas beyond the arc, breaking down defenders with low tight dribbles that gave him separation to shoot it or blow by. McGowen scored at the rack with body control that absorbed contact with ease and craft that allowed him to manipulate the ball to finish from tight or wide angles.

I’ve only gotten a chance to watch Josiah once this school year, but he showed high IQ and playmaking ability at the combo guard slot. His skills involve good court awareness and always knowing where his teammates are on offense. His defensive aggressiveness is also key to causing the opponent to rack up turnovers and help his team convert on fastbreaks. He was a huge component of Houston Christian coming away with a 35-1 record this season. Jojo will continue this grassroots season with RL9 Academy as an experienced guard on the team

He demonstrates great passing skills, downhill driving, and high IQ playmaking on both ends of the floor as the primary ball handler offensively. His skills and effectiveness in passing to open teammates were instrumental in the team’s success this season. Playing with RL9 this summer, Josiah should see his stock increase as he participates in the New Balance circuit. It’s surprising that another promising prospect like Josiah doesn’t have much reported college interest.

Jojo McGowen changed the game as a glue guy and playmaker, impacting winning in multiple ways. McGowen consistently made the right read at the right time, advancing the ball in transition, swinging it to shift the defense, initiating actions, and creating advantages by taking exactly what the defense gave him. McGowen played with strong shot selection, scoring in space and attacking straight lines without ever disrupting the offense, showcasing his natural feel for the game.

Within the offense he found himself open with the ball in his hands in the pick and roll making timely decisions to help his team convert offensively. He makes good passes to open teammates setting them up for success as the team’s starting guard.
