2027 Guard Recruiting Targets Colleges Should Offer Immediately

The 2027 class in Texas is full of heavily stacked talent and if we are being honest, many of it is underrecruited. I have been keeping an eye on many of the guards specifically and many of them have made their way onto my big board with some impressive play during summer ball. From GASO to RCS Sports to TABC, this was my first chance over the grassroots season to truly examine some of these guards' skillsets and I was thoroughly impressed. Here are some names I feel like should be hot on the recruiting trail for schools looking to bring in some hot-start freshmen for next year!    [player_tooltip player_id='2499769' first='Adonis' last='Wright'] is one of the guards who I think has a tremendous ceiling and impacts the game tremendously whenever he is on the floor. He has very underrated athleticism and displayed this, finishing hard at the rim whenever I caught him in person at TABC. I could tell immediately from his energy that he is a valuable part of the Pflugerville Weiss team, and they definitely respect him as a vocal leader and a tough defender who can match up with anyone and make them work for their points. His backdoor cuts allow him to slash with great effectiveness, and he runs his lane effectively in transition for either lobs or quick jumpers.     [player_tooltip player_id='3624070' first='Carter' last='Savoy'] is a player who competes hard on both ends of the floor and makes winning plays. His defense is one of the best attributes of his game as he provides versatility guarding opposing ballhandlers and his quickness/speed on fastbreaks are a valuable asset when causing turnovers for opponents. He can shoot jumpers from range, and he drives to the rim and is able to draw contact and get himself to the line at a high rate. One of my guards I have been watching closely for a while for the 2027 class, Carter should be getting recruited at the collegiate level before long due to his skillset and competitive nature.     One of Cason's best skillset tools is how hard he attacks the basket and his underrated playmaking ability. He makes pinpoint passes to open teammates and is capable of pressuring opposing guards in a full court pressure setting. He fits in well at the combo guard due to his IQ and dual threat ability as a passer and scorer from all areas of the court. He is explosive off the dribble when he drives fearlessly into the paint, and he is very vocal on defense. Ever since transferring from Jersey Village to Second Baptist, Cason has upped his game to another level and is definitely worth a look for coaches at the next level.     Josiah is one of the highest IQ guards in the Houston area when it comes to offensive style of play. He finds teammates consistently for open looks/shots at the basket, uses speed to create his own looks at the rim, and he is dynamic in his ability to impact the stat column in all categories. His savvy with the ball keeps opponents off balance and on their toes when in isolation coverage against Josiah. He absorbs contact consistently and finishes tough and-ones, even against taller defenders. McGowen had a very productive summer running with [program_tooltip program_id='2078792' first='RL9' last=''] on the New Balance circuit and his stock has risen up the recruiting boards. Coaches, don't miss out on recruiting this high IQ combo guard!     The main part of Kai's game I enjoyed watching was when he was creating shots for himself in the midrange and on the perimeter. He uses a variety of quick and swift dribble moves to beat opponents out of triple threat and he also knows where to spot up on the arc without the ball in his hands. On the defensive end, he has height and awareness to guard almost any position, and this has been proved all summer long during his run with the STX Hoopsters. He surveys the court well running the point guard spot and he is comfortable handling the ball against high intensity pressure from the opposing defenders. He has a lengthy wingspan and a smooth touch that he can use to score the ball from anywhere.     [player_tooltip player_id='3711800' first='Luke' last='Munden'] averaged 11 points, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds per game during the regular season for Belton HS and I got to watch him in action playing for ATX Lockdown this summer. The tournament I evaluated Munden, I saw him explode in one game for 27 points on 41% shooting from the perimeter, demonstrating good marksmanship and ability to score the ball from all three levels. He moves well off the ball, showcasing sneaky athleticism, crashing the glass on both sides of the ball, and his lateral quickness allows him to play passing lanes and survey the court well at either guard slot.
