We’re starting to get the feeling that there may be no more talented offensive player than Gates in all of 5A – if not the state. The rising senior guard was simply unstoppable, especially in the second half in an opening night game against Grant, as he poured in bucket after bucket. He was especially devastating in the open floor as he raced down the floor and finished at the hoop in a variety of ways. The jumper was pure, he was perfect from the free throw line, and when it was all said and done, Gates finished with a game-high 30 points and an intense win.

Arguably the most electric offensive weapon the entire event was Gates, who took advantage of having the ball in his hands on practically every possession to put up some big-time numbers. There wasn’t much defenses could do against the Parkrose junior as he knocked down threes, scored off the dribble in a variety of ways such as pull-ups and fade-aways, and was effective around the hoop as well. His highlight-reel play draw plenty of oohs and aahs all weekend.

Keone is a legit next level prospect with an elite skill set. He has a real tight handle and shiftiness when he has the ball. His game is very Smooth and fluid and creates space with his speed and footwork. He likes to get to the midrange area and pop up with his smooth jump shot. He pushes the ball up on the break with his head up looking for cutters. He can finish above the rim through contact and with acrobatic finesse finishes. All weekend he proved he was on another level by commanding double teams and zones to try and stop him.

Honorable Mention
One of the best shooters in the class of 2027, Gates was a huge part of Parkrose’s historic season that resulted in a state championship. Although his numbers weren’t gaudy on the Broncos balanced squad, Gates’ shooting ability garners a lot of attention from opponents which creates space & driving opportunities for all of the Broncos.

Certainly the most established name on this list, Gates didn’t disappoint at the 5A state tournament. He knocked down over 50% of his 3 point attempts for the balanced Parkrose offense. Every time it left his hand, it looked like it was going in, a sign of a great shooter. Much more will be expected of Gates in 2026-27 if the Broncos hope to repeat.

An electric scorer, Gates has taken his talents to Parkrose, where he’ll play alongside Class of 2026 standout Fuzzy Montague. He’s grown a couple inches to 6-foot-2 and his ability to get buckets from all three levels and play both on and off the basketball will give the head coach Kendrick Williams plenty of options in the backcourt.
