Who Will Be 5A Champs in 2026-27?

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Last season Parkrose came into the season with a ton of hype and expectations and the Broncos met them all, capturing the 5A championship - the first boys basketball title for the school in over 40 years. Can they pull off a repeat? It's certainly plausible but there is no shortage of competition - and it's arguably tougher than it was last year.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>That said, Parkrose is still likely considered the favorite. Although 5A Co-Player of the Year Fuzzy Montague and jack-of-all-trades Keion James have graduated, the rest of head coach Kendrick Williams' key players from his rotation are back - seniors [player_tooltip player_id='2026486' first='Keone' last='Gates'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2026056' first='Varryk' last='Hardges'], junior [player_tooltip player_id='2507321' first='Jayden' last='Hall'], and sophomore Victor Norris - and once again key transfers will play a role with the Smith brothers, Jordan and Jaelyn.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Perhaps the biggest challenger to their title defense will come from a familiar foe in the new version of the Northwest Conference - Centennial. Head coach Demetrius McQuarn also has many of his key players returning - including the state's biggest college prospect stock riser in [player_tooltip player_id='2882203' first='Dakari' last='Mitchell']. Similar to several other 5A programs, the Eagles will also benefit from the addition of transfers and they could have the tallest starting lineup in the state. As always, Wilsonville will be in the hunt with their own size and senior [player_tooltip player_id='2539884' first='Aazzee' last='Breaux'] will be primed to have a big year.
