Aaron Proia | Prep Hoops Scout
-Shifty, aggressive downhill driving guard that leveraged his size/quickness to sweep or cross his matchup over to get to his spots–especially when his man was distracted by an arriving ball screen. Jackson was lightning quick in the open floor, used a quick set of hands to disrupt offensive flow by poking out steals or fighting over ball screens at the top of the key, and showed both the feel and the skill to throw high-level whip passes with either hand off a live dribble. Absolute gamer that forced reactions with repeated forays at the rim or Nash dribble baseline drives to force the helpers to leave open teammates.

Fresh off a First Team All-PCL selection, Jackson was limited by foul trouble but nonetheless was impactful in his minutes. The junior lead guard came out aggressive during a first quarter that saw Bonner establish clear control of the game, scoring seven of his nine points in the opening frame. Jackson sat most of the second quarter with three fouls and took a back seat for the second half, but continued to offer a steady hand as a ballhandler and also displayed his leadership qualities with his communication when restricted to the bench. It wasn’t his night to shine but make no mistake that Jackson had a key hand in engineering the win.

Jackson may have warranted inclusion on this type of list last year, but deserves mention again after another noteworthy jump that saw him emerge into a first team all-league performer. Helping lead a guard-oriented Bonner group that made a surprise run to the league’s second seed, Jackson was the straw that stirred the drink from the point guard position. A rock-solid ballhandler, he found his way to his spots with regularity while masterfully controlling tempo and spreading the ball around to his teammates. He helps set a tough-nosed tone on the other end, and has a penchant for coming up with big plays when the lights are the brightest. A surefire scholarship-level prospect, he’ll have a chance to emerge onto D1 radars this summer with continued growth as a perimeter shooter.

One of the bigger stock-risers of the PCL season thus far, Jackson started out uncharacteristically quietly while going scoreless in the first half. He came alive when it mattered most, scoring all 12 of his points after halftime while controlling the game near-flawlessly from the point guard spot. Jackson put together a clinic in handling pressure off the dribble, keeping the ball on a string while weaving through Roman defenders. He knew exactly when to push tempo and when to slow things down in order to drain clock. While mostly a facilitator, he mixed in a few momentum-swinging driving layups to keep the defense honest. He continues to trend as a clear scholarship-level talent with D1 potential if he can be a more consistently dangerous shooter from the perimeter.

In hindsight, it was a sign of things to come when Jackson had recorded two points before a single second ran off the clock, taking advantage of a procedural technical against Prep to get the Friars out to a lead from which they would never look back. Jackson would score 9 of his team’s first 12 points in a first quarter run that proved to be the difference in the game, on his way to a game-high 18 overall. The dynamic lead guard spent time both on and off the ball, showing off his shifty change-of-pace handle to get into the lane and make plays for himself or others, while also keeping things honest with a pair of first-half 3s. Jackson’s ability to run a team with hard-nosed two-way play while also scoring himself when necessary should be appealing for schools up to the low D1 level in the coming year-plus.

Jackson stuffs the stat sheet with his play and is a jack of all trades master of none. Jackson is a threat to score from behind the arc and if his feet are set there is a high chance he is converting. Jackson uses his close proximity to the ground to get steals. He converted on his shots from the foul line. Jackson is very active on both ends of the floor. He is a vintage floor general. I like how he lives in the paint. Jackson is tracking as a scholarship prospect.

-Jackson showed an ability to drive the ball into open gaps into the defense and consistently made the right decision to score or pass to an open teammate in the advantage situation that he created with his drive to the rim. He showed good vision off the bounce, changes speeds well and can turn really sharp corners coming off of ball screens, and showed a ton of moxie throughout the game by fighting for loose balls or playing through contact. Jackson hit a face-up AND1 3 off the kickout and hit the FT to make it a 2-possession game with 5 mins left in the game and almost brought his team all the way back. Love his speed in the open court and aggression at both ends of the floor as a guard that can thrive both on or off the ball because of his feel.

This speedy, elusive, and high IQ primary ball handler posted 16 points per game during Philly HS Live. Jackson did a tremendous job of piloting Bonner’s transition game. He went coast-to-coast for buckets and threw live dribble passes to wings for lay-ins as well as transition threes. Jackson’s ability to spot a teammate down the floor and deliver a precise “long pass” is incredible. On half-court possessions Jackson directed designed sets and used his quick burst to blow past defenders for runners and floaters. Jackson also impressed with his ability to snare contested rebounds.

Jackson is a speedy, elusive, and high IQ point guard with a clear understanding of his role at Bonner. In the open court, Jackson’ role was pushing the tempo and then delivering dimes to lane fillers, transition / trail shooters and teammates who has “leaked out”. On half-court possessions Jackson worked as a poised floor general and controlled the pace while spreading the rock around to Bonner’s multiple scoring options. Still, on more than one occasion, Jackson did blow past a defender with one quick burst and got to the rack for a lay-in. Plus, Jackson hit floaters and runners off the dribble.
