Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Part of a multi-pronged Bonner backcourt that carries almost the entire load for the Friars, Carroll continues to be a two-way spark from his off-ball role. Carroll contributed 13 points, knocking down a pair of 3’s while spacing the floor as a dynamic movement shooter with a lightning-quick release. He’s a constant pest on the defensive end and offers some secondary ballhandling when called upon as well. We’ll be curious to see if he’s able to shoulder more lead guard responsibilities in a different settings, but Carroll is playing his role at a consistently high level right now and trending toward scholarship radars in the process.

Continuing a breakout junior season, Carroll stepped up as a key secondary scorer while delivering 16 points toward the win. Second in the league in 3-point makes, he knocked down three more from beyond the arc, each of them either thwarting a Roman run or spoiling a tough defensive possession. He also showed he could step up when needed as a ballhandler against pressure and mixed in a driving layup to keep things honest. Carroll also knocked down 5-of-6 at the line in the fourth quarter to help ice the game. He continues to emerge as a potential scholarship-level option by this time next year.

The third piece of a dynamic three-headed junior backcourt, Carroll recorded his second straight double-figure performance to start the PCL season with a crucial 15-point effort. With his backcourt mates focused on knifing downhill to make plays off the bounce, Carroll took advantage of the space on the perimeter to cash in for 5 3s, most coming via catch-and-shoot opportunities. Carroll consistently relocated to open space both out of designed actions and in the run of play, showing off a polished quick-release stroke. He also showed some skill and quickness in the dribble-drive game when run off the line. We’d like to get a chance to see him in more of an on-ball role at some point, as Bonner’s multi-guard lineup relegates him mostly to a complementary role, but Carroll’s shooting ability coupled with experience in the rigors of PCL play should put him at least on scholarship radars by this time next year.

Carroll is an affective complimentary guard who does a nice job attacking the paint. He does a nice job scoring at the foul line and converted most of his chances from there. He has no problem making the extra pass and finding a teammate for a more high percentage shot. Carroll is effective turning the corner in the half-court. He also showed that he could score off the ball as a catch and shooter from deep. His hustle allows him to keep offensive plays alive.

Carroll is another 2027 prospect who really grabbed our attention during the post season. During the regular season, Carroll started nine games and boasted a stat line of 6.5 points and 2 rebounds per night while shooting 44% from deep (31 3PM). Then when the 5A state playoffs rolled around, Carroll really found his scoring touch. Across Bonner’s three 5A state tournament games, Carool averaged 11 points and 2.3 made threes per night. He scored 13 points (3 threes) in Bonner’s 1st Round win over [highschool_tooltip highschool_id=’2594611′ name=’Bangor’]. In addition to lacing threes this year, Carroll proved that he could work as a poised secondary ball handler. In that role he got into the lane for lay-ins and floaters as well as kick out passes. Carroll’s speed and ability to convert at the rim through contact made him a serious open court threat.
