Nicholson has been active in his recruitment, talking to D-Is such as Loyola-Maryland and Bucknell, but also to a whole host of others at the D-II level such as GNAC programs Western Washington, Seattle Pacific, and Western Oregon along with Cal State San Marcos and Hawaii Pacific. He’s made a number of campus visits and will be headed to Cal State San Marcos next week.
Nicholson posted a solid effort in the Northwest Shootout, registering 15 points on a variety of jumpers both from long range – where he shot 2-for-6 – and the mid-range. While his total only was two rebounds, he did compete on the glass and was solid defensively guarding multiple positions.
Analysis: Nicholson possesses a prototypical frame for a modern utility wing. He is a strong, explosive athlete who thrives in high-traffic areas. His physical maturity allows him to absorb contact on drives and finish through defenders rather than around them. He has the functional strength to battle for interior positioning against larger forwards while maintaining the lateral quickness to stay in front of perimeter threats. A true “inside-out” threat. Nicholson is a reliable floor-spacer from beyond the arc, but he separates himself with a sophisticated mid-range package. His ability to utilize a fadeaway jumper in isolation or as a late-clock bail-out option makes him a nightmare to scheme against. Nicholson is a “plug-and-play” prospect who elevates the floor of any rotation. His blend of shot-making, physical toughness, and veteran poise suggests he can contribute immediately at the next level. He doesn’t need the ball in his hands to impact the game, but he is more than capable of carrying the scoring load when called upon.
Nicholson was steady all season on a team loaded with talented players. His play in the state tournament really increased his profile, as he earned all tournament honors for his effort. Look for Nicholson to get interest at the NAIA & D2 levels.

is a versatile and skilled forward who impacts the game at all three levels. He brings an acrobatic finishing ability around the rim, paired with a smooth fadeaway that makes him tough to defend in isolation or late-clock situations. Nicholson is a reliable outside shooter with a strong mid-range game, allowing him to score consistently whether he’s attacking or spacing the floor. He plays with a high level of basketball IQ, making smart decisions and showing comfort as a secondary ball handler. Physically, he’s a strong, athletic wing who isn’t afraid to play through contact, finishing well at the rim and battling inside when needed. A hard worker and well-rounded player, Nicholson’s ability to contribute across the board makes him a valuable player for his team.
The title game didn’t finish the way that Nicholson or the Rams had hoped, but that doesn’t detract from his play throughout the week. After a monster game (27 points) in the quarterfinals, Nicholson continued to show the skill set & basketball iq that should have NAIA & D2 programs taking a long look over the coming weeks.
Nicholson delivered a standout performance, finishing with a game-high 27 points and 6 rebounds. A smart, hardworking wing, he scored at all three levels with a solid outside shot and a strong mid-range game. Nicholson also finished well at the rim, handled the ball confidently, and played through contact while contributing on the boards.
On a loaded Central Catholic roster, any of several players can lead the way on a given night. To advance & win their 2nd state title in three seasons, the Rams will undoubtedly need Nicholson’s size & athleticism to defend the post against quality big men.
Jalen Nicholson carried the load for Central Catholic, finishing with 20 points and seven rebounds in a strong all-around performance. With his size and skill, Nicholson showed he can impact the game both inside and out, giving the defense multiple problems to solve.
He was especially effective catching the ball in triple-threat situations, consistently getting by his defender and creating quality looks. Nicholson also knocked down a few shots from distance, forcing defenders to respect him on the perimeter. On a night where offense was hard to come by for Central Catholic, Nicholson was the one constant throughout the game.
Nicholson is an athletic, strong forward who continues to establish himself as one of the top players in the Mt. Hood Conference. He handles the ball well for his size, rebounds effectively, and brings physicality on both ends of the floor. A capable defender, Nicholson finished with 15 points and 6 rebounds, showcasing his consistent two-way impact.
