Expert Analysis
Tom Keller | Prep Hoops Scout
Roberts really got into an offensive groove in the later stretches of the his PSA squads game against Brewster. He is a smooth operating shooter with a green light release. Roberts found ways to score off the catch and wiggle to different spots off the bounce. I liked how he stayed in the moment and didn’t get rattled when shots weren’t falling early for him. He is a prospect I have seen for the latter stretches of 3 plus years convert tough shots after tough shots. Roberts is a prospect who should be a priory for mid major minus schools in need of a high octane bucket getter.

Roberts, a guard out of Putnam Science Academy, checks into the rankings at #20, climbing 8 spots since our last update. A participant at this year’s Made Hoops Uncommon 40 All American Camp, he was one of New England’s top stock risers this spring. A confident ball handler, he has good positional size and nice athletic pop, both of which he uses to his advantage as a creator on the offensive end of the floor. The lefty can finish at multiple levels and is a tough cover in transition. He’s competitive on the defensive end of the floor and thrives off creating turnovers. He’ll be another highly sought after prospect by mid-major programs this summer and runs with Team New England Basketball Club.

One of the major winners of the spring, Roberts culminated the live period by earning an offer from Hofstra. The lefty combo guard is a shot-creator with the ball in his hands, playing with some real wiggle and the explosiveness needed to go by defenders off the bounce. He scores it at all three levels, has good floor visions out of screen and roll actions, and can finish above the rim when needed. Defensively, he’s a tough on ball defender that is ultra competitive and knows how to quickly turn defense into offense.

Roberts might be the best shooter of the backcourt bunch for PSA. The lefty guard is ultra quick with his handle and has a super fluid release that allows him to get his shot off easily against taller and longer defenders. I wrote about him at the last NEBL session and it was those aforementioned skills that stood out; but this weekend, his active hands and lightning-quick horizontal speed on the defensive end was what caused havoc. He never stops batting at the ball and is constantly getting back taps. Big time two way guard who is a nightmare to dribble against.

This kid can shoot and can score around the rim from a variety of angles. A very efficient passer making sure he finds the teammate that is hot. Even though he can make a shot in the game he opts for the more higher percentage shot or guy feeling it. He is a smooth player with great hops for his size.

Roberts has a similar skillset to his backcourt mate Williams. Another southpaw, he can stroke it from three but also has phenomenal athleticism when driving to the hoop. He had a really nice take to the rim where he used his off hand to finish amongst the trees. At times, he can get a little shot-happy, but it’s tough to argue with his shot selection when he’s a tough shot maker. The junior has a bright, D1 future ahead of himself.
