Almodovar went from wanting just to be a starter as a youngster to quickly understanding he could be the best pure point guard in the entire CHSAA. He got better by the week last year, he has great chemistry with the coaching staff, doesn’t force anything and always puts a premium on winning. The ability to deflects passes, annoy ball handlers, create quick advantages in transition and get all his guys looks is huge for Hayes. Could be his best year yet. 

While Almodovar may not put up high scoring numbers he arguably is the best pure point guard in New York City. He flipped the switch last season and instead of worrying about points or shots he just focused on the offense. His decision making picked up, he became unselfish, he’s a leader and Hayes has really benefitted. The team has taken the next step under Almodovar and this year he will look to help the Cardinals win a championship. Many also could argue he’s one of the top perimeter defenders as well. 

He has great court vision and awareness. Can get into the lane ans score with a variety of little runners and quick push shots. Extremely quick hands and feet. Outstanding defender. Gets his hands in for deflections or steals. Turns defense into offense quickly.

Extremely quick hands and feet gets him in position to get steals and defections. On both ends of the floor he seems to be in the middle of everything. Excellent handle. Able to make passes in any type of situation. Has shown a nice push shot off the bounce. Real solid mid range game.

Little Hec is a natural, unselfish floor general who controls the game with both ends. He is currently averaging 5.7 assists per game, which ranks 8th in the EYBL 16U division. He also holds an impressive 2.5 assist‑to‑turnover ratio in EYBL play, highlighting his decision making and reliability as a primary ball handler.

The young guard was very impressive. Really good defending on the ball with his numerous steals in this game, showing quick hand and moving his feet staying in front. Really good court vision . Excellent passer. Displayed a quick little one handed push shot in the lane off a pass.

It makes some sense that Almodovar runs the show like a cagey veteran as he’s yet another sophomore who saw significant time a season ago as a freshman. Despite not scoring a point until the final minute, he impressed throughout this game with his advanced ability to control the pace of the game and put teammates in positions to succeed. Almodovar racked up 6 assists while consistently keeping the ball moving, particularly looking to get it up the floor quickly in transition. He was efficient getting to his spots off the dribble while surveying for cutters or shooters. There’s a slight tendency to force passes that aren’t there, as he has to find more consistent means of threatening defenses as a scorer, but Almodovar’s ability to run a team really stands out in an era full of lower-IQ score-first guards.

Possesses great court vision and awareness. Has a nice mid range game. Can zip passes on the move or make the pocket pass. Gets his hands in for steals.

Hector looked strong and confident on the court. He made a help-side steal and jumped the passing lane for another steal. He connected on a spot-up three from the right corner and later recorded an impressive steal by disrupting a dribble handoff. He played with a good change of pace and did not shy away from being a scrappy defender.
