He delivered a quick finish at the rim with a scoop layup and made a strong pass to Nazir Campbell under the basket. He caught the ball in the right corner and attacked the closeout, using a change of direction to get into a two dribble floater. Another sophomore returning with a healthy load of varsity experience under his belt already, Yancey thrived as part of Hayes’ guard-heavy attack. While he struggled at times with his efficiency, he finished with 11 points, staying consistently active and aggressive while displaying his natural craft as a multi-level scorer. Yancey is slippery and shifty off the bounce with good changes of speeds to keep the D guessing. He’s also a capable shooter off the catch, helping give him the ability to thrive in an off-ball role in the halfcourt. He’ll have to work to refine his decisionmaking and get more effective as a finisher among the trees but the juice as a ballhandler is evident with Yancey and offers clear long-term intrigue as he develops.
