About Hanif
Expert Analysis

Hanif Muhammad continued his strong spring going right at a 3SSB team in Team Rose on Sunday. Real Phenom was up at halftime but couldn’t hang on in the second, but Hanif impressed with some of his individual play going right at a talented backcourt. Even against a a team of high caliber athletes, Hanif may have been the quickest player on the floor. Defenders couldn’t stay in front of him as his change-of-speed on the ball was just too much. Able to explode to get to the rim, or crossover to create space for a mid-range jumper. In transition he can absolutely fly up the floor weaving in-and-out of defenders to get to the rim and finish. On the other end he’s a pest with his on-ball defense and is constantly applying heavy ball pressure. He fights to get over the top of screens and constantly cuts his man off on the ball.

The Breck point guard seemed to be in multiple places at once on defense against MN Lightning. He has that level of quickness where he makes a massive impact both guarding the ball and making plays off the ball. Muhammad picked up a handful of steals by jumping passing lanes or by lunging in off the ball to cut off driving lanes. Then had the speed to go coast-to-coast and get all the way to the rim to finish. Has soft touch to go over the top of size with a floater, while also playing off two feet to avoid crashing into defenders can picking up charge calls.

Now at Breck, Hanif has been putting together impressive performances as a junior. He’s one of the shiftiest players I’ve seen all season, and showcased the ability to get separation for a jumper just about any time he wanted to. Started off hot before hitting a shooting slump through the middle of the game, but then scored some key buckets down the stretch. Finished with 18 points, and showed some flashes of playmaking ability getting into the lane and dishing it off at the last second. Defensively he really puts his quickness to use on the ball, and in the second half came up with a steal and drew a charge in key situations when the game was close.
