Expert Analysis
Max Wagner | Prep Hoops Scout
Gavin was on fire from three in a high scoring matchup against Minnesota Select . He was a big reason why his team was able to keep up with Select’s fast paced play-style. In the second half it got to the point where anytime Gavin touched the ball, you expected three points to go on the board. The MAS is a microwave type of shooter who heats up in a hurry and can knock down a handful of shots within a couple of minutes to completely change a game. Impressive showing with Chapman Academy North over the weekend.

Milwaukee Academy of Science didn’t beat De Pere, but the Novas put a big scare into one of the state’s top WIAA Division 1 teams. And that was largely due to the strong play of Valeri, who came out firing and scored 16 of his 22 points in the first half of the 84-81 setback. Valeri is a confident player with a quick first step and deep shooting range. He knocked down four triples for MAS in the loss to De Pere while also attacking the basket when defenders closed out too hard on him. A gym rat in every sense of the word, Valeri has stepped up his game this winter and become one of the go-to players for the MAS program.

Gavin provided a nice spark off the bench in MAS’ win over Tosa West. The sophomore guard can stretch the floor, or attack the basket where he’s a crafty finisher. Did a nice job of using the rim to protect against shot blockers as he was able to score with a reverse lay-up in transition. Liked his effort to move his feet and cut off players as they look to drive, as well as his effort to get set and take a charge around the rim.
