Brandon Ramsey | Prep Hoops Scout
One of the best remaining unsigned seniors in Indiana’s Class of 2026, Petty had a very strong showing with EG10 17u down in Texas on the Adidas Gold Circuit. The Lawrence Central High School product has good size and length on the perimeter, has a pop of athleticism in the open floor, and projects as a good catch-and-shoot threat. We have always been high on his three-point shooting ability. Petty was recently offered by Danville Area Community College coming out of the weekend.

One of the better pure catch-and-shoot threats in the rising senior class, Petty averaged 9.9 points per game as a junior at North Central before transferring to Lawrence Central for his senior season. His combination of positional size, length, athleticism, and shooting ability makes him an intriguing prospect for the college level.

Gavin helped lead EG10 to a win over a tough ND Phenom team that features multiple D1 prospects on Friday night. He’s an intriguing prospect that blends length, explosive athleticism, and shooting touch into a 6’5 frame. Started the game off moving his feet with a smaller guard and then swatting his shot at the rim. Also showed comfort running off screens, and quickly getting his feet squared to catch and elevate for a shot. Silky smooth finisher out in transition. Always seemed ready to provide a bucket when his team needed one.

This was our first opportunity to see Petty with his new team at Lawrence North. However, his production certainly didn’t look much different than when he was in a North Central uniform. The talented 6’4″ guard flared a couple of screens early and attacked the elongated closeout before using his length to elevate and finish at the rim. He had multiple And-1’s and several athletic finishes for Lawrence Central. Petty is a talented scorer.

Petty was on fire on Friday night from three-point range connecting on five triples on his way to 15 points in EG10 ‘s close loss to Progeny. Then, he had a quick second half stretch of three three-point shots in a win that we watched on Saturday. His knockdown shooting ability paired with his long, athletic 6’5″ frame makes him an intriguing prospect going into the first live period.

We had the opportunity to see Petty play again on Monday afternoon just hours after the rankings release as we had boots on the ground for North Central High School’s workouts. The 6’4″-6’5″ guard had a great summer shooting the basketball. His shot-making ability at his size, along with some fluid athleticism, makes him an intriguing prospect. Look for him to have a breakout junior season and get on the radar of some college programs going into next summer.

Another prospect that we highlight as a stock-riser back in early July, Petty was excellent through the rest of the summer and once again deserves to be mentioned. He has good positional size and length on the perimeter at 6’5″ to go along with some really impressive catch-and-shoot ability. Petty should have a big junior season alongside a couple very talented teammates in the backcourt at North Central High School. Above all else, it has been Petty’s catch-and-shoot ability from three-point range that has really elevated his game. Intriguing college prospect to start to keep tabs on.
