Perkiomen’s play as a team in June was one of the bigger talking points coming out of the Mid Atlantic Independent School Team Camps in Allentown, and Ray’s play on the wing was a key reason why the Panthers found so much success. A transfer from Damascus (MD) who will repeat his junior year, Ray shows the type of translatable plug-and-play skillset that D1 programs covet out of wings his size. He’s a smooth and confident shooter from the perimeter with advanced mechanics operating off the catch. He consistently applies his length on the defensive end while showing a strong feel for off-ball positioning. Ray isn’t a dynamic creator for himself or others, but does show hints of feel and polish off the dribble that could be worth tapping into over time. The Free State native made the jump to 17U UAA competition this July and showed no signs of slowing down, giving him continued momentum heading into a key year for both his development and recruitment.

Ray provided a lot of depth with his scoring. He connected on several three pointers throughout the day. He has no issue playing on the interior and can acquire points inside the paint. I like the way he impacts the game. Like how he can get a bucket in a matter of seconds. Ray has nice positional size and the 3/2 spot. Ray is a prospect who would benefit from a reclass situation where he can work on the finer nuances of the game, get stronger and quicker and play against stronger competition.

While much of the attention that Ray receives has to do with his raw scoring numbers for Damascus, his versatility on both ends combined with sound basketball IQ makes for a well-rounded hybrid forward. Due to the lack of true size on the roster, Ray has played the five and with that, is expected to defend bigs, hold down the glass and anchor the defense in the painted area. While he isn’t the biggest bruising presence on the floor, he makes up for it with his length, agile feet and active hands. Using his length to haul in rebounds, it allows for grab-and-go opportunities where his long strides and fluid athleticism take centerstage. He’s a capable spot-up shooter, attacks gaps effectively off the catch and converts at the charity stripe with efficiency. The junior wing is averaging 23 points and just under five rebounds per game as Damascus sits 8-4 overall.
