Expert Analysis
Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Helping his Raw Sports team to a decisive first round win, Royal was the most impressive underclassman of the night. The emerging young big from the Harrisburg area continued to build on a strong back half of his repeat sophomore season, putting together a 16-point, nine-rebound performance while imposing his will inside against an undersized opponent. He’s always stood out with his imposing frame and impressive athleticism, but is starting to turn potential into production at a more consistent rate, opening up an intriguing upside for higher-level D1 programs to begin tracking.

Despite the lopsided score, Royal was able to impress in his role while showing steady overall progress as a long-term prospect up front. The repeat sophomore by way of Carlisle (PA) played with consistent energy and physicality from start to finish, using his size and broad frame to take advantage of a smaller Haverford frontcourt. He showed strong fundamentals on deep post catches, with an understanding of leverage and the ability to finish in rhythm using either hand. While he didn’t get any to fall, Royal also flashed some intrigue as a floor-spacer with consistently sound mechanics on a few catch-and-shoot attempts from 3. There’s still development left to be done but that type of motor and inside-out versatility with Royal’s frame could give him a chance to be recruited at a pretty high level before all is said and done.

is another forward that heads to The Perkiomen School, this after spending his underclassmen years at Carlisle. He is a traditional power forward with excellent game inside the paint. His soft touch and wingspan allow him to finish easily over top of defenders. He’s also relentless on the offensive glass and converts on athletic finishes consistently. Royal is a force on defense as an athletic rim protector, where he’s a threat to swat away anything near the basket. Tyler is going to see more Division I offers come in after some time with Perkiomen.

By far the top big man in the camp. Royal shows a natural ability to finish at the rim through contact, rebounds aggressively, and protects the interior with his length and timing. Offensively, he can score in multiple ways, including putbacks, short‑range jumpers, and attacking the paint off the dribble. Defensively, his mobility allows him to switch on smaller opponents while still holding his own in the post, making him a matchup problem for opponents. With continued skill development, Royal has the potential to be a legit two-way contributing big man on a national level for the next three years of varsity play.

-Our scouts came away impressed with the athleticism and motor throughout the afternoon as Royal consistently sprinted to both ends of the floor to serve as a whirling dervish of activity for his team. Royal was very active on the glass, finished well above the rim, and served as an efficient roll/lob threat throughout the afternoon. Really love that he didn’t allow a lack of touches or a missed shot to affect his defensive intensity as he usually made it up for it at that end of the floor. While I wouldn’t say he’s consistently capable of taking it coast to coast, he puts it on the floor well enough to take advantage of a pretty explosive first step to get to the rim with efficiency. Love his upside as a long term prospect that knows his identity as a player and works pretty hard to improve his game.
