once again leveraged his physical tools into productive play, particularly thriving off activity around the basket on both ends of the floor. The lengthy southpaw’s constant activity allowed him to be a true difference maker on the interior— being effective as both a rim runner and lane runner to punish the opposing defense for weak transition defense while also being effective as a timely and instinctive cutter in the half court, catching dump offs in the dunker spot from penetrating guards and even capitalizing off second chance opportunities on the offensive glass. Defensively, Hillsman dominated the rebounding department— consistently crashing the glass and coming down with rebounds to secure possessions.

A part of his skillset that remains intricate to what his outlook looks like at the next level, Hillsman even flashed his spot up shooting ability from the outside— showing improved fluidity in the overall mechanics in his jump shot.

Hillsman has been lost in the shuffle at times this fall amid a guard-heavy TPS lineup, still getting his feet fully back under him after missing extensive time with injury earlier in the calendar year. He looked as close to his best as we’ve seen on Saturday in a close win over St. Peter’s Prep, showing why he’s been regarded as perhaps the top two-way wing in the state. The rangy southpaw was flying around on D, using his length and activity to smother opposing shots at the rim and make plays in passing lanes. Hillsman was effective getting downhill toward the rim in transition and also knocked down a 3 in halfcourt play. Overall the Rochester native provided a nice reminder as to why high-majors have been on his trail for years.

brings an interesting combination of athleticism and length on both ends of the floor to TPS’s wing position. Offensively, Hillsman’s ability to not only attack closeouts and get to the rim but also be an effective piece in transition and finish above the rim will be an impactful addition to TPS’s offense. Defensively, Hillsman brings length, versatility, and a high motor that figures to be an intricate part of the Celtics’ defensive.

Hillsman was so dynamic athletically for New Heights Lightning, finishing an alley-oop above the square and showing off the bounce on two weakside blocks. The microskills of knowing when to cut, when to come off a screen, how to find open gaps in the defense, seeing man and ball defensively– the instincts accentuate the athletic ability to form a fairly well-rounded player. Interested to see if he develops into a 3+D wing or continues to add to the ball skills to become more of a jumbo creator from the wing.
