Expert Analysis
Eric Wallace | Prep Hoops Scout
One of the top guards in the event in Baltimore, Wingfield scored 24 points in a win on Sunday while showcasing his complete offensive skill set. The junior consistently created his own offense and converted multiple strong, tough drives to the rim through contact. He was especially effective in the midrange, where he consistently knocked down pull up jumpers off the dribble. Wingfield also showed solid passing ability and a high basketball IQ, making smart reads and contributing as a secondary ball handler when needed. Combined with his reliable shot making and ability to score at multiple levels, he continues to establish himself as a very intriguing backcourt prospect.

Devin has had a solid first half and continues to establish himself as one of the best shooters in the conference. He’s been effective off the catch, but also shows comfort creating his own shot when attacked closeouts into pull-ups. Wingfield plays with good pace and stays under control, which helps him get to his spots and score efficiently instead of hunting tough shots. His midrange game has been a consistent weapon, and you can see him continuing to expand his offensive bag as the season goes on. Devin’s stock is rising because the scoring ability is real, and he’s becoming more dependable and consistent each time out.

13p 7r 2a 3s vs Wood
-Continue to come away impressed with the feel from Wingfield in a 4-guard lineup that allows the Lions to take turns spreading the floor. Wingfield was especially good on the glass, securing defensive stops before pushing the pace in transition to try and find some easy buckets for his team. Wingfield scored off a beautiful reverse lay, curled around a screen for an elbow J, hit a movement 3, and got downhill in the 2H to score at the rim or earn trips to the FT line.

Wingfield is coming off a loud sophomore season with Wilde Lake as he transitions back to the private school scene with a new sense of confidence behind his overall game. Always been known as a dead-eye shooter, the 6-foot-3 guard made his impact known early in their win over McDonogh and as defenders started sprinting to him on closeouts, Wingfield put it on the deck for 1-to-2 bounces before rising up from 15 feet with balance. He has good IQ and does a nice job of processing off the ball before the catch to take advantage of the rotating defense’s exposed gaps. Wingfield followed Nelson in this win with 18 points.

Previous Rank: 46
-Wingfield transferred into STA after a productive summer playing up with Mid Atlantic Select and he continues to ascend in our rankings with his play. Wingfield really thrives as a halfcourt scorer that can get it going off the bounce from midrange but also serves as a lethal C+S target on the wings. Wingfield also plays with great IQ, understanding when to attack long closeouts and when the ball needs to be skipped to the opposite side of the floor to shift the defense. Really intrigued to see how he is used with STA at full strength as there is a ton of offensive talent on the roster.

-Arguably the hottest name of the summer as Wingfield transferred in from a local public school to make an immediate impact with both STA and MAS. Love the pace that he plays with in transition, always racing with the ball in the fastbreak without rushing his reads. He utilizes a smooth midrange pull-up game to buy him some space to continue scoring runs with blow-by layups and trips to the free throw line. Wingfield also showed good balance and consistency on the perimeter looks whether he has all day to shoot it or has to beat a closeout. Should be one of the most impactful guards in the IAC this season.

19p 10r 3a 2s vs KY Ambition
-Wingfield has turned in an insanely productive summer that saw him debuting within our top 65 after several standout performances during the scholastic live periods. He also stood out as the best player on a good MAS team, despite playing up as a rising junior. Wingfield finished with a double-double by keeping the same aggressive intensity level throughout the game at both ends of the floor as a dynamic guard that needs to be accounted for at all times. He hit simple baseline pull-ups, had two steals that turned into layups at the other end, had a beautiful double clutch lay off glass, scored off of a leaning floater while fading away almost behind the glass in transition, and knocked down a few C+S 3s. Like the development of his feel as he is prioritizing the value of sneaking in to snag defensive rebounds to close out possessions and get his team going the other way for easy buckets in transition. Wingfield is a heady prospect that allows the game to come to him, doesn’t get sped up, and doesn’t commit turnovers by being careless with the basketball. He should be in for a big year in new threads with STA this season.
