I loved the way CJ Hyland CJ Hyland 6'0" | PG Grayson | 2024 State GA played in a win over Pebblebrook. The Western Carolina-commit didn’t have to score the ball to have complete control over the game. Instead of hunting his own offense, he was creating offense for others. CJ pushes the ball well in transition. His vision in the halfcourt and ability to keep his dribble alive are impressive. He would suck in the defense by driving baseline then whip out passes to the top of the key. Whenever Hyland had the ball on the wings, he would always have an eye looking opposite and would deliver perfect cross court passes to open shooters, getting the defense scrambling from side to side.

He can be a volume scorer when they need him to be and I’ve seen him have multiple 15+ point quarters this year already. Now at Grayson, Hyland is proving that he can be a difference maker at the highest level of high school basketball. To my knowledge, Hyland holds just one offer from Western Carolina but I expect his stock to keep rising with Team Thad this spring.

He followed up last weekend’s 27-point performance with a 19-point outing against Etowah, 17 of which came in the second half. His 3-level scoring ability was on display and he connected on 3 second-half threes as well. He also finished some tough lays at the rim. The additions of CJ Hyland CJ Hyland 6'0" | PG Grayson | 2024 State GA and Anthony Alston Anthony Alston 6'2" | SG Grayson | 2024 State GA give Grayson 3 proven scorers on the perimeter which could prove to be a necessity late in the year.

CJ Hyland CJ Hyland 6'0" | PG Grayson | 2024 State GA stepped up in a major way on Saturday while Gicarri Harris Gicarri Harris 6'4" | CG Grayson | 2024 State #86 Nation GA got in some early foul trouble and was forced to sit for most of the game. Hyland had 17 points in the 4th quarter alone, finished with 27, and did everything he could down the stretch to keep Grayson close. His 3-level scoring ability was on full display and he hit some tough threes off the dribble in crunch time. While they ultimately lost to Pebblebrook, Grayson has to feel good about having multiple volume scorers.
