Riley Highfill | Prep Hoops Scout
Cam is one of the top Point guards in all of VA with his elite shotmaking ability and playmaking ability. He plays for Petersburg High School and Team Loaded VA 3SSB. He’s been a pivotal piece to Petersburg’s success and helped them win a state championship last year. He’s an elite 3pt shooter who shoots it at a very high percentage, excels in ball screens, and is a great facilitator. Cam is also one of the better on-ball defenders in the area as he can pick up 94 feet and cause mayhem for opposing guards. He will be a prospect college coaches will want to check out this weekend.

-Love the tenacity that Claiborne played with as a guard that is comfortable playing off the ball as a knockdown shooter or as a decision-maker in the PnR. Claiborne made a shot from both corners to give a stalled Petersburg offense a jolt of life midway through the 1H, had a smooth drive and drop off to a big in transition, threw a beautiful chest pass over the opponent immediately after getting the kick-ahead in transition for the easy dunk for his big, and provided pesky POA defense for his team. Love that he didn’t shy away from physicality and infused some life into a team that got rocked by Coolidge’s physicality out the gate.

Cam is a great point of attack player on both offense and defense. He is a reliable scorer who can fill up a stat sheet with deep range threes, floaters, and layups, while also facilitating to the open guy even while having the hot hand. Cam shot 40% from three-point land, while also having 5 assists per game through 3 total contests. What surprised me the most was Cam’s selflessness to get others going early on in the game; his maturity and IQ opened up the court for his team’s offense to get the scoreboard lit up early. Cam is the complete package in a college looking for a point guard at the next level.

looked every bit like a high-level guard throughout the weekend. Coming off a season with Petersburg’s state championship program, it’s easy to understand why he has earned the reputation he has around Virginia basketball circles.
Claiborne is a true floor general who plays with confidence and poise. His ability as a shooter immediately puts pressure on defenses because he’s capable of knocking down shots from deep at a high rate. Defenders simply can’t afford to lose him for even a second because of how quickly he can make them pay.
Against Team Loaded, he was one of the primary focal points defensively, and despite drawing that level of attention, he still found ways to make an impact. He competed, made solid decisions with the ball, and continued playing hard on both ends. Players who combine skill with a consistent work ethic often continue to improve rapidly, and Claiborne looks like one of those guards that college programs should continue monitoring moving forward.

Claiborne continues to establish himself as one of the more dangerous scoring guards in the area. The Petersburg product is a true three-level threat, but what separates him is his ability to heat up quickly from beyond the arc. He knocked down shots with confidence all weekend, including a 20-point performance against Team Loaded 804 Black. Claiborne doesn’t just score it; he’s physical, attacks downhill, and embraces the defensive side of the ball by picking up full court and disrupting opposing guards. His stock is trending upward as the summer approaches.

Claiborne is a smart, tough, and reliable lead guard who consistently makes winning plays. He gets downhill with purpose, finishes effectively in the paint, and can knock down open perimeter shots to keep defenses honest. A steady decision maker with good command of the offense, he also competes on the defensive end as a willing and capable on ball defender.

Coming off a state championship season, Claiborne enters the spring circuit with strong momentum as he transitions to Virginia Elite from Team Loaded. He projects as a key piece for the program and one of the more intriguing point guards to track in the 2027 class. Claiborne is a physical, confident lead guard who plays with a strong feel for the game. He does a great job controlling tempo, making reads, and getting teammates involved while still being able to create his own offense when needed. His handle is tight and crafty, allowing him to navigate defenders and create space in the half court. He’s also a reliable perimeter shooter who can knock down the three consistently, which makes him a threat both on and off the ball. At 5’10”, Claiborne compensates for size with strength, toughness, and competitiveness defending bigger guards effectively and bringing a physical edge on that end of the floor.
His game draws similarities to Jameer Nelson in terms of his build, toughness, and ability to control the game as a floor general. Claiborne has already begun to attract attention from multiple Division I programs, and that interest should continue to grow. With his skill set, leadership, and competitive nature, he is expected to be a centerpiece for Va. Elite this spring.
He’s firmly a name to watch in the 2027 point guard class and one whose stock should continue to rise as he performs on the grassroots stage.
