Anytime I get to see Walker in an intense matchup, I get my popcorn ready. He’s the definition of a tough-nosed, dogged defender who plays with an intense edge that only a few can match. He made his impact in the scoring column in spurts with a mixture of tough layups and a couple of spot-up three’s but his presence was more prevalent with his pressure defending the ball. He’s a pest that keeps coming back no matter if the ball handler is able to shake him or the ref gets him for being more handsy than he should. Nevertheless, his physicality, lateral foot speed and active hands generate more good things for his team than they do bad and it was a key component in Petersburg establishing early breathing room before losing at the last second against St. James on Saturday.

Walker is a tough, quick lead guard who consistently puts pressure on opposing defenses. He is at his best attacking off the dribble, using his quickness to get into the paint and finish effectively around the rim. Walker has a good feel for the game, plays with a competitive edge and consistently makes winning plays. He brings that same toughness to the defensive end, where he is a willing and capable on ball defender.

Walker is another one of those often overlooked Petersburg players who makes a big impact when he’s on the floor and takes advantage of being overlooked. He really brought defensive pressure and did a good job picking up full court and turning ball handlers, he lived in the lane and showed his ability to finish through contact, he brought a lot of toughness and played with a competitive chip, and he showed he’s going to be a big part of this talented Petersburg group this year.

is another lead guard who has gone unnoticed for a while; after watching him play for a while, he is showing that he has the tools to be a college-level guard. He is an excellent and gritty on-ball defender who loves to pick up full-court, a consistent shooter, and a valuable playmaker for his team. He has been a part of the Petersburg squad that won a state championship last year and was a pivotal piece for them; he will assume a larger role this season for the Crimson Waves. I have been more and more impressed with him each time I’ve seen him play, and he will quickly become someone college coaches will be after.

Walker is a tough, downhill guard who thrives as a primary option. He plays with confidence and pace, using his handle to get where he wants on the floor. Once he gets into the lane, he’s comfortable finishing or making the right read to set up teammates. His leadership and experience show in how he controls the offense, and he embraces the physical side of the game. Walker’s ability to set the tone will be key for VA Havoc this weekend.

is a guard that simply knows how to score the basketball. At 6’0”, he may not have overwhelming size. However, he compensates for it with skill, craftiness, and a strong feel for the game. He’s a polished ball-handler who does a great job getting to his spots and creating separation off the dribble.
Walker’s ability to control tempo is impressive. He plays at his own pace, making him effective against different types of defenders. He can score from multiple levels and has shown he can carry an offensive load when needed. Beyond scoring, he’s also a capable playmaker who can facilitate and make smart decisions with the ball in his hands.
He plays with an edge, too. Walker is a gritty competitor. He embraces the defensive side of the ball. He shows the ability to stay in front and apply pressure. His work ethic is evident. He’s a gym rat who continues to refine his game. That consistency is setting him up for a strong summer.
Running with VA Havoc on the Under Armour circuit, Walker has a real opportunity to elevate his stock. With his scoring ability and toughness, he’s a name that could quickly move from under-the-radar to must-watch.

Arguably the most intense game I watched this weekend was between Petersburg and Archbishop Carroll. Walker’s toughness matched that of Carroll’s talented backcourt as he brough a tough, physical presence in guarding the ball the full length of the floor. Anytime there was a 50/50 in his vicinity, Walker was in the mix battling and any competitive talk was met by Walker and backed with his play.
