About Braylon
Expert Analysis
Max Wagner | Prep Hoops Scout
One of the best pure scorers at the event, Braylon was getting buckets in bulk for Minnesota Heat . He’s such an explosive athlete who excels at getting to the rim off the dribble and just hanging in the air for difficult finishes. Good body control allows him to take a bump while keeping his chin at the rim to finish at a high percentage. Showed off his bounce in the open floor when he got out in transition for back-to-back dunks on Saturday against Starks Elite . He’s coming off of a 30 ppg junior season in Wisconsin, and is now making his name known in Minnesota this spring.

I was really impressed with Braylon on day three, as he turned in a standout performance. He is a versatile combo guard prospect, as his game consists of a great blend of skill and athleticism. He was able to push the ball up the floor in transition, as well as being able to play above the rim. Backaus is also a confident shooter from deep and made some fantastic passes to teammates for easy scores.

Braylon made his debut with Minnesota Heat this weekend, and is making an instant impact for them. After scoring 30+ ppg during his junior season, Braylon is providing an extra scoring punch in the Heat backcourt. After trailing by double figures to start the second half against Buffalo Legacy , Braylon scored four times in a few minutes to help his team rally and lead them to a comeback win. So dangerous getting downhill where he can throw down dunks in the open floor or hang in the air for difficult finishes in traffic.

There are no secrets when Backaus steps onto the basketball floor. He’s going to come at you from the first possession to the last with his aggressiveness, skill and penchant to score. He loves to get downhill, and once he does, it usually results in a field goal or a foul. He attempted 11 foul shots and made six for JAG Select in its 66-62 loss to Minnesota rise. Backaus, one of the state’s elite scorers who averaged 30.3 ppg as a junior at Black River Falls, finished the contest with 15 points. Backaus has the lateral movement and strength to evolve into a very good defender with work and attention to that side of the ball. He also has the bounce and timing required to become a very good rebounder.

A player wired to find the basket, Backaus attacks the hoop with his size, strength, aethleticism and skill. And that usually leads to positive results for Black River Falls. Though he is the focal point of opposing defenses, Backaus still is having a huge season for the Tigers. He is averaging 33.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting better than 50 percent from the floor. Backaus has helped Black River Falls to a 7-3 record and has emerged as a solid backcourt prospect in the state’s talented 2027 class.

Through three games, Backaus is averaging a robust 42.7 points per game. The athletic 6-foot-1 combination guard had 38 in a win over Coulee Christian/Providence, 44 in a loss to Ellsworth and 46 in a win over Tomahawk. He is shooting 58 percent from the field, 31 percent (9 of 21) from three-point range and 83 percent from the foul line. Currently ranked No. 47 in the junior class, Backaus’ verticality, energy on the floor and ability to find the basket are huge assets for Black River Falls. The schedule for the Tigers picks up a bit in the coming weeks so it will be interesting to see if Backaus can keep up his production and help his team to some Coulee Conference victories. But he’s off to a tremendous start for the upstart Tigers.

A prolific scorer during the high school season, Backaus was impressive in his approach to The Expo as he was always willing to give up the ball to a slashing teammate while also feeding the post from the wing. When called upon, the gifted wing prospect also flashed his scoring potential. He is very difficult to contain in transition and can use his size and go-to moves to get around defenders and score at the rim. He is one of the better players in central Wisconsin at drawing fouls and makes his foul shots as well. Backaus is a solid all-around player who looks to have another huge season for Black River Falls.

A wired-to-score backcourt prospect, Backaus can put up points in a hurry due to his deep bag of tricks on offense. He can pop in multiple threes in any game, scores through contact on drives to the basket, and swishes mid-range jump shots. He had eight points for Coulee United in its win over Minnesota Heat Tuma as he turned in a cerebral performance for his squad. But he can get you 20-points plus in most games, and get to the foul line at a high level as well.

Braylon turned in a very impressive performance on Friday night, showing off his elite scoring ability. He was very good at attacking the basket, being able to work his way around a defender for a score with ease. He is a knockdown shooter from the perimeter and was automatic when left with any room. Backaus is a 2027 prospect, playing up at the 17U level this weekend with Coulee United, being the go-to guy.
