Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
Passing instincts and feel generally take awhile to develop, but Weaver is a freshman and already sees the floor like a college player. The 5-foot-10 point guard has unbelievable vision and can make every single pass you’d want your point guard to make. Kick ahead, pocket, weak side, no-look—you name it, he does it. The shooting ability is going to get better, and Weaver also does a good job getting in passing lanes and making life tough for opponents defensively, but it’s his passing that steals the show. He’s a joy to watch and clearly takes pride in creating easy baskets for his teammates.

Weaver, a sophomore guard out of Windsor High School, is a dynamic creator that is at his best with the ball in his hands. His size isn’t a deterrent as he plays bigger than he is by utilizing his athleticism and quickness. He does a nice job of beating the initial defender off the bounce, finishes in a variety of ways around the rim, and does a nice job of making plays as a facilitator in the half-court. He has the ability to be a disruptive on-ball defender with his quickness and instincts.

Weaver is a ridiculously skilled point guard who has the IQ and feel of a seasoned varsity star — size is literally the only factor holding him back. The 5-foot-10 floor general has excellent quickness and is able to breeze by whoever he wants with his dribble moves, but he can also slow down and make on-time, on-target passes to teammates. Bigger offensive players can sometimes take advantage of him in the post, but he holds his own on the perimeter because of his quick hands and lateral speed. Some added strength — by way of an extra developmental year — could be the difference in where Weaver ends up playing college ball.

Weaver is an absolute joy to watch. The 5-foot-10 point guard is skinny and undersized, but he was one of the most skilled players I saw at the entire tournament in any division. He has an incredible handle and gets to wherever he wants on the court while handling extreme pressure very effectively, and he makes great decisions in the paint once he punctures it. He can finish quite athletically at the rim, and his hang time is quite special, too. Defensively, the sophomore has insane hands and gets tons of steals as a result, and he also has amazing timing on rebounds. Awesome player on both ends.
