Rounding out our top-10 is Able, who claimed the top spot in the John Carroll history books for points with 2,400 total. The 6-foot-3 sharpshooting guard proved his game to be much more than a lethal weapon from deep this season as he took on more of a primary playmaking role for the Patriots. Headed to UMBC next season after a tremendous year for the Retrievers, Able’s shooting, instincts as a cutter and overall basketball instincts should mean for a long, productive collegiate career.

Another heroic performance was put together by Able, who notched 34 points as John Carroll protected their home court against No. 1 St. Frances. While the Patriots established a big lead early on, St. Frances settled in and clawed their way back in what became a back-and-forth affair. It was Able’s clutch bucket as time ran down where he converted an and-1 at the bucket and sunk the free-throw with 2.4 seconds remaining to bring him to 34 points on the night and lift his team to a massive win that could play an important role in their seeding for the BCL playoffs. It lifted them from fifth to fourth place for the time being and as they lean on Able, who became one of the more prolific scorers in BCL history this season, you can never count the Patriots out from making a potential postseason run.

This may have been my first game of watching Able in his high school career where he was held scoreless for an entire half. Once the third quarter started though, he approached with a different sense of focus and edge that supplied support in Clark’s standout effort. The UMBC pledge would finish with 14 in this one, 6 of which came from deep. St. Frances did a nice job of getting up into Able’s space and having help side defenders ready to dig on the first sign of penetration. it was nice to see Able bounce back with a better second half and not shy away from being schemed out of the game completely.

Among the more established entities in the region, Able is in Year 4 as a go-to varsity contributor, having recently become the leading scorer in John Carroll history. He wasn’t quite at his best on Wednesday night, but still managed 18 points in a workmanlike effort while drawing extra defensive attention throughout the game. He stands out immediately as being in the best shape of his life, having transitioned excess bulk into muscle. Able is known as a prolific shooter, but while he struggled to get going from the perimeter, he used threat of his jumper to create physical downhill drives, showing mature pace off the bounce and playing strong off two feet in the paint. He also impressed as a poised passer out of double teams with size to see over top of opposing defenses. Able’s multifaceted impact and improved frame should have him competing for minutes right away at the next level.

-Able made his case for BCL POY on a night that he was honored for eclipsing the 2,000 point mark for his career. Able started thingsd off with a 2 foot floater in the paint, hit a stepback and1 3 for the 4-point play, scored on several back cuts from the corner around defenders, and posted up smaller guards for easy seals and buckets on BLOB plays. Love the skill progression from a T10 player in the 2026 MD class as he is getting the step on his matchup off of rip screens and using his shoulders to keep his opponent behind him to score at the rim with relative ease. UMBC is getting a good one, but in the mean time he will remain the productive head of the snake for a John Carroll team that shouldn’t be discounted in BCL play.

Able’s commitment to UMBC will prove to be a quality addition as the 6-foot-3 guard has put together a fantastic start to his senior campaign. He’s become the all-time leading scorer in John Carroll’s history and just a couple of days ago, hauled in his 500th career rebound. Those won’t be the only feats that Able crosses off his list this season. An elite three-point shooter, Able has expanded his game while improving his body to become a legitimate threat off the dribble. What gets overlooked is the leadership qualities that he possesses and they’ve clearly impacted the youth within this John Carroll roster as the Patriots sit 12-3 overall and set to make a run in the BCL and MIAA A Conference this February.
